Has anyone actually cut out the gills in front of the rear tires?

I've seen the decals that make the gills look like they are cut out and it got me to thinking, why can't they be cut out for real? Has anyone on the forum done this? If so how about posting some pics. Any reason this wouldn't be a good idea?

Russ

I think just a cut out would look bad but if it was done right you could make it work. The thing is, they'd need to be functional or they'd just slow you down.

i think it would make the gill area extremely fragile and susceptible to bending and premature rusting on the edges where the cuts were made. Just my .02

I've never seen anyone actually cut out each individual gill, but there are many cars where they have cut out that entire area. Those look great.

the sheet metal there leads directly into the car passenger compartment. The only thing there is the rear arm rest and interior panel.

For it to be functional you would have to cut into the gills, weld in a another panel between the exterior and interior, and then cut into the sheet metal between the wheel well and the interior.

Basically its a large amount of metal/body work for very little function.

Why? It just leads to a blind box.

I've seen some pics of this done on a few cars. They're on the forum somewhere.

Gary's camaro has them. As well as a few other members. All I know is that they aren't cheap.
