Camaro Rant
Okay, to let off some steam, and see what you guys think, I'm posting this rant. Okay, here it goes...
If you want a V8 Camaro in 2009, you will have to buy a Camaro SS. Buying a Camaro SS isn't so bad, but if you're like me, all you want is a Camaro with a V8 in it... that's it... no SS. It's not that I don't like SS Camaro's, it's just that I don't want anything special, but I DO want a V8, so I kinda have to resort to buying an SS. From there I might decide then that "Hey, maybe instead of getting a Camaro SS, I can settle with a V6 Camaro, and save a bit of cash!" which brings me to part two of my rant, the V6 muscle car. When I think muscle car, I think a big ass, supercharged 427 V8 in a first gen. Camaro with one of those butterfly-valved intake thingies protruding from the hood. I don't think of all that with a V6 though. I think that the V8 is half the part of owning an old '60-'70's muscle car, and I want to get a muscle car. I'm really stuck in a pickle here. I don't want a Camaro SS, but I DO want a V8, although I probably won't have the money to get one anyway, so i'll have to get a V6, BUT the V6 MUST have those wheels that look like the ones in the concept, only smaller, which may or may not be an option, and I'm thinking it won't. Sigh...

I've read you saying this before...so I guess now would be a good time to ask. How come you don't want anything 'special'? I'd think that'd be a little bit of the thrill.

So, do I understand you correctly in that you want a V8 but you won't buy it because it will have two extra letters on the front grille?
Debadging really isn't all that difficult. And if you're referring to the changed front fascia we've been seeing in some spy pics, we don't know for sure that that's the SS' grille (so far as I know) and even then it won't be all that hard or expensive to convert the stock SS to a sleeper (which is what I think you're going for). And so far as you're difficulties accepting a V6 as a muscle car, just keep in mind that it will be pushing out around 300 horses which is more than quite a few of the V8's on the market today and, in doing so it'll be lighter as well with a rumored 50/50 weight distribution. Just keep thinking big picture and you'll be okay.

Maybe his insurance would go higher because the SS is a special model? Maybe he doesn't like the SS nose? |

Insurance will be higher with a V8 regardless of what letters signify the model.
Debadging shouldn't be hard at all, though I guess that really depends on what they do to badge it in the first place. And yeah, the Camaro isn't a muscle car. Its a pony car. There is a difference.

Is this what your saying?... "hey forget the SS package" and give me a V8 with some 16" steel rims, cloth, no cd or sound system, no power anything just a base v8. I mean this would be great if your budget won't allow for a 28k + SS, but if you have a stigma about the SS thats an easy fix as said above.

As far as most everyone's assuming, the 'base' V8 is the SS.

You can always debadge it. Just get the [speculated] SS (Z28, if that turns out to be the V8) and pull off the badges. You'll have the whole sleeper appeal.

I don't want an SS either. But I would rather have a Z28 than a simple V8 Camaro. However, there isn't much of a chance of there being a 'noname' V8. It is expected to be either the Z28 or the SS. Even if GM was considering this, the various forums have assumed it will be SS or Z28 for so long that GM will probably adopt one or the other.

quite honestly thats just stupid.
. As far as I can remember the SS has always been the next step after the V8, so changing it now owuld been just down right dumb. So I guess Im gonna get flamed now.
