They are supposedly baked at the factory so no need to wait 3 months. I was told on my newly painted hood to way 2 months before applying any sealants, but a "normal" wax was ok. 3 months I can wax and seal...

Generally cars are baked, but the paint will continue to cure over a period of time. Cars bought at a dealer generally don't have this concern b/c of the time from when they were painted to when they arrive at the lot.

I had my truck painted after an accident and had to wait the obligatory 60-90 days b/c even with baking the paint was going to continue to cure... I don't know the specifics on corvette factory paint process's but theres always the possibility they don't bake at as high a temp due to the fiberglass construction?

Being that it was a NCM delivery I'd stick with their advice... it is afterall the corvette museum and they probably know better than anyone.

I dont understand why body shops still tell people to wait to wax your cars, that may be the case 30yrs ago, but not any more . We do some very expensive builds and we never have a problem. Go nuts!!!

Likely b/c most people can't differentiate between waxes and sealants. A sealant can stain clear coat (I have seen this first hand) due the nature of which it bonds to the finish.

I subscribe to the better safe than sorry methodology. Its easier to polish out a few minor paint defects and live with less than flawless paint for the first little bit than it is to have the clear reshot due to staining or discoloration.

If there is staining ,then somebody is using a low quality product,we only use PPG Global Paints. I use the phrase ( you get what you pay for).

Thanks for all of the input guys! I'm thinking I will indeed practice the "better safe than sorry" ideal when my 2SSRS shows up, just wanted to pick your brains a bit and see if there was a consensus on this

Good to know... the vehicle in question was a recently completed custom job by a highly respected shop, but I can't speak to the type of paint they use. The sealant applied was actually a good product (not ours, but I am familiar with it) and put on the paint about 3 days after the car was baked, the staining appeared a day or 2 later.

The base was a pearl white and you could actually see the pattern in which the sealant was applied... you could see the wipe marks. The car was returned to the shop, sanded, and reshot. Lesson learned.

Thanks for the insight though... I try to learn as much about the different brands of paint as I can, but it seems a lot of painters have different opinions on the topic.

Thumbs up

This thread is VERY confusing!!
Is this a brand new car or a car that just got repainted?!!?
If it just got repainted, it's best to wait a while before waxing/polishing. If it is a brand new car from the factory, it should be fine to wax/polish.
