IMPORTANT QUESTION!!!! O2 SENSOR!!!

Real quick, can you drive a few hundred miles with one rear o2 sensor not screwed on?

I'll explain later.

I'm not an expert but.....

If your upstream sensors aren't connected... the CEL will be on and the engine will just run really rich so you will get terrible gas mileage...

If your downstream sensors aren't connected...you will get a CEL with codes related to the catalytic converter and/or downstream o2 sensors

either way you will get a CEL...but the ECM has protections built in to prevent from running a STOCK engine too lean

AND if you mean unscrewed from the exhaust pipe...you will have an exhaust leak pointed towards wherever the bung is = not good for whatever is in the way.....

Well I'm screwed. I can't screw anything into the cat where the rear O2 sensor goes. I bought SOLO extenders and on one side it was difficult to put on, so I tried unscrewing it and the some of the thread from the extenders broke off and is stuck in the cat. I planned on going to a BBK dyno meet this weekend but it's in Cali. I tried running it with the o2 sensor out and it's freaking loud and a little poppy from the exhaust going through that hole. If I could somehow cover that hole until I get to bbk to buy new hi flow cats, I think I'll be ok...

Few hundred miles = drive to So Cal for the BBK meet??

Im no expert on the O2 sensors, i would figure it would just give you a CEL.. being a rear sensor, which just monitors(someone correct me if im wrong) right? If it is completely removed, then yeah, you'll have a nasty exhaust leak and who knows what the heat would do to anything close to it.

Well, you could always rethread it, and get a bolt that would fit it, for a temp plug, and get new ones at the meet?

Something like this in the right size might work:

http://www.amazon.com/Torca-AccuSeal...4008143&sr=1-1

Or if you know anyone that can weld they could put you a new bung on there...

+1

Try running a tap through it...might clean the threads up enough

Well none of the extenders fit, but I was able to get the o2 sensor on halfway. It's snug but not too tight. Don't want to mess up those threads. That should work until the bbk meet so I can get a new cat. Drove her around and sounds fine. Thanks for the replies guys. I really appreciate it. I may try tapping it after I get new ones so I'll have a spare.

Jason: I have a 18mm thread tap at work. If the threads are not to damaged I can try to clean the threads so you can get your sensor screwed in. I'm leaving for CA tomorrow so I don't know if I'll have time to look at it. Give me a call tomorrow.
