Made my own CAI (Now with pictures)! I have a question though

Alright so one of my friends who is an engineering major helped me make a custom CAI, he did one on his mini cooper and it looked pretty sweet. So anyways we just finished it and reset the computer by unhooking the postitive end of the battery. We didn't look at the time but I think we only let it set for 10 MAYBE 15mins. When we started back up it had the check engine light come on and then what was weird was the stabiltrak light came on, I have no idea why. I'm hoping it was because the computer was reset? Maybe I didn't let it reset long enough? Anyways we drove it around a little bit and then I dropped him off at his place. Talked for a little bit and then I came back. When I started the car up again all of the "Check lights" were now off. I'm hoping this is ok and all. I've heard about the check engine light coming on when new CAI's are installed so hopefully that's normal.. I have NO idea why the stabiltrak light would come on though. The one thing to note is, when we got the new pipe that had the hole for the air flow sensor, the one in the pipe is circular and the sensor on the Camaro is kind of square-ish. Anyways it sitting slightly at an angle and he said his only concern was that is possible the sensor might not be reading right. It's only at a slight angle and he thought it "shouldn't" be a problem but we all know what can go wrong will go wrong What do yall think of my situation? It sounds normal and I've only put about 5 miles on it so far with the custom intake and I feels a little more responsive.

I'll take pictures tomorrow in the day time, personally I think it looks AWESOME.

***EDIT*** PICTURES!

Yeah, I can't really comment on the unit until I see pics. It seems very normal
that you got a cel and then it eventually went out. This has happened to many up here.

All kinds of warning lights are on after a dyno session... they all clear after a some driving and starts... so not surprised you had the stablitrack light and then they went off..

MAF sensors can be very finicky... hats off to you trying to do this but not sure I would want to do this blind without a way to check things...

Did you change the diameter of the MAF sensor housing?

Do you think I should go back to the original air intake? If it's hurting it, shouldn't some warning lights come on, and STAY on?

Not really it's really close to being the same, the thing is the pipe that had the hole for the MAF wasn't the right shape, but it still fit snug and the very small leaks it might have we sealed with electrical tape to ensure air doesn't escape. The only thing is, the MAF isn't at the exact angle as it was in the stock version, it's slightly tilted.

Should have bought a good one like airaid. You bought a brand new camaro and your gonna rig it? also you know what your getting from the airaid. Those companies test different designs to fit good and to get the maximum air flow (and the correct way for the sensor to fit air tight). I give you credit for doing that but not the smartest choice especially if your asking questions like these...

I understand that airaid is going to produce better results, but a CAI isn't going to do too much either way. I didn't particularly do it ONLY for performance, I love the way it looks and it sounds good from the front of the car. The only reason I'm asking these questions is to see if anyone else has any professional knowledge in this area, or has done something similar.

That's cool that you guys are doing some of your own work, but the relatively sharp angles on your intake tube are going to eat up some of your air pressure. I don't know whether or not you've got the tools to do it, but if you do, you should try making a new tube with a wider bend radius in those corners.

Unfortunately we don't have the necessary tools to do this, I realize from a performance standpoint I'd be better buying one than making my own, but realistically since CAI's don't do too much for performance anyways, I don't really mind. I just really like how it turned out. The pictures don't really do it justice, the filter kind of looks pink, when it really is a dark red. The dark red with the chrome look SO good together.

It's just a little something that sets mine apart from other Camaro's

That looks pretty spiffy, but I have 2 questions.....

1) Aren't the sharp angles diminishing some of the airflow?
2) What is the additional mini filter for, right behind the CAI?

it's a PCV breather... instead of having the PCV connected to the intake tube (like the stock on) the crank case is now just vented to the open air...
