Blasphemy?
Would it be considered blasphemy to say that I hope that sales of the 5th gen Camaro are less than great?
Not for reasons of future value, i just don't want them to become the next Mustang. I used to really want a Mustang when I lived in a small town in Alaska. Then I moved to the city and found that everyone and their mother has a Mustang. Even Corvettes, I see at least 5 or 6 of them a day. With a car this nice, and in the same relative price range, the Camaro is sure to be around every corner within 5-10 years. Is it too much to ask that there be some meaningless flaw that will deter the average driver from buying a Camaro, while not affecting our enjoyment too much? Or at least GM can decide to stop making the Camaro again after 2 or 3 years? I just want to be able to drive around all day throughout Seattle and its Surrounding cities without seeing too many cars that look exactly like mine. Anyway, that's my rant for today. |

I hope they make Camaros for as long as possible. The 6th gens can take design cues from the 2nd gens, the 7th gens can take cue from the 3rd gens and of course, the 8th gens can take cues from the 4th gens. Then in 2040 or something they can come up with something new or start all over again and take cues from the 5th gen!
There should be enough variations in both color and engine combinations, that not everyone will have the same car. |

If what you want comes true pencil then the camaro will fail and go away for alot longer than it did before..
Basicaly look at it this way.. gm wants the camaro to be the next mustang.. so if thats not for you... the camaro isnt for you.

I know of a meaningless flaw I'd like to see implemented. How about making it V8 only? That would keep the senior citizens and high schoolers away.
One thing I don't like about the Mustang is that I can pull up next to a V6 model and half the time it's a kid or an elderly person, so I can understand Pencil's point. It's not that the Camaro isn't for him, it's that he wants a car that everyone will associate with being badass. I can understand that, but I also don't want the Camaro (or high performance sports cars) to die out because not enough people are buying them. From a business perspective, it wouldn't work. The Corvette has survived a long time as a V8 only, but that's only because GM makes enough profit on each one sold. |

I would say pencil if your going for unique then why not lok towards a GTO? There aren't there many out there but they are really nice cars. I'm not trying to turn you off of the camaro so don't think that. Just a suggestion if your that serious about driving something not alot of other people have.

Nah, it's all just wishful thinking.
I want the Camaro to be hugely successful for GM and to be be given all the respect it deserves. I just don't want it to end up being just another "common" car, like the Mustang's turned into. I just wish there was some way to preserve the uniqueness of the Camaro, to know that every time you spot one, you're seeing someone who's serious about their Camaro, not just some "kid or an elderly person", as warghost said. |

But my logical brain says that like others have said already, if Camaro sales don't at LEAST match Mustang sales, it goes away again...more than likely forever. |

Tho I would love to be one of a limited number of people to own one of the new camaros and only be a few on the road, but i dont mind if I see more of them out there.
tho one thing to keep in mind, is that you notice a lot more of your type of car on the road. I could spot an fbod (any year) from a mile away.

To be quite honest. I feel the exact opposite!
I want as Many Camaro's out there as possible. It won't be overwhelming to me, it'll be heaven! Way back when, during the Smokey and the bandit ages - there were Hundreds of thousands of Camaro's and Firebirds rolling around, cause those were the cars to be in. I want those days to come back. They'll have plenty of V6 options in a relatively light car to make for a good daily driver(think...bigger Cobalt). And they're sure to still have the Lords of the roads Z28s, and SS's... If the Camaro fails now, in it's first few years back...it'll die, and while most of think that the Camaro died before and came back - it didn't. It took a break. GM knew they'd build another one, they just didn't know when. But if it "takes anther break", it'll be gone forever, no third chances. Chevy has the immortal Corvette, but Pontiac has nothing with a heritige name - so GTO can try and come back as many times as it wants. The Camaro doesn't neccessarily need to be around. Finally, Ford sold around 140,000 Mustangs last year. That's 140,000 units of a not-so-great re-incarnation of a Muscle car. Do you really think that they captured the whole market for that segment? I don't. GM says it needs to sell at least 100,000 units a year to justify it's continued production. So it's not blasphemy to want a unique car - but don't count on it. Like others have said, it's really not what your car looks like, it's what it can do. Trust me - with the note this thing makes, NOBODY will have trouble identifying it as a V8. ![]() NOTE: I want to make clear that I have the utmost faith that the Camaro will not fail. I was uncertain at first, but after everything I've heard, it's a done deal for me. Camaro's not going anywhere for a while. |

Trying to be unique??? buy something that nobody else has! or make yours look different than everyone elses.. I hope and pray that GM sells the hell out of the camaro's especially the V6 and makes tons of money so they will KEEP it! After market embraces it if they are successful.
blasphemy.... it's worse than that there is a LOT riding on the success of this car. i totally feel your need to be different, that's why you can customize your car

Customize, customize, customize... That's what I did. My car's a V6 Camaro but I still wanted to be sure people knew it was MINE when they saw it. So I added the billet grille and stainless steel rear letter inserts. Not much, but you can tell the difference between mine and a completely stock Camaro. Customizations doesn't have to be much and you don't have to go crazy, just personalize your car and make sure people know it's you when you're coming!

SOLUTION...
Move to a smaller town. Less people = less Camaros. C'mon... I know there's going to be lots of people driving Camaros just like mine....until I customize it. |

I may need to clarify a thing or two. I don't actually want the Camaro to fail. I would be ecstatic if it was able to put the Mustang out of the picture. I'm merely expressing my annoyance at the sheer volume of the Mustang that seems to make it about as special as an Accord or VW Beetle. It pains me to think that our beloved Camaro may soon be destined to share the same fate. |
