Vaccumn leak after installing Thorley shorties
Newhall Muffler just did the install of my C.A.I intake, Thorley shorties and Flowmaster AMT cat back. (great job and it sounds awesome!) But...They had probs with getting the Y pipe to fit after the headers were installed and had to bend it slightly. However, they called me and said the headers have a vaccumn leak at the flange on the drivers side.
Anyone with the Thorley's have this problem? If so,how did you solve it? Thanks, I searched the forum and didn't find anything on this. |

You mean an exhaust leak? I installed them on mine and had no problems. I tightened the front bolts first before the rear ones. No leaks.

I could swear he said vaccumn leak which makes no f'ing sense so I will assume he meant exhaust leak. This is a professional muffler/exhaust shop and have done a lot of work on a lot of cars including my friend's SS...I assume they know what they are doing, talking about, and know how to put headers on. They think the flange is the problem and might need to be milled????

The gaskets there are a "crush" type gasket and should not be re-used for best results. I replaced mine when I did the job and no probs... didn't have to bend anything either. They shouldn't have had to as it is a "flex" style downpipe ...

![]() There are clamps at the back of the downpipes that can be loosened to help get things aligned but they should have known/seen this.... ![]() Def get the crush gaskets replaced, good luck.
