What exactly does the ls3 conversion change out of the l99 and how much does it cost??
Also instead of matching the ls3 could you improve it further past that by changing out the same parts? (Whatever those parts might be.) Btw I have no idea how an engine works but this is the car I am going to be learning on. Thoughts? |

There are a few options. Personally, I would contact Ted Jannetty @ Jannetty Racing Enterprises. He has both the equipment and know how to get you where you want to go. (Plus he and his crew are second to none as far as customer service goes)

How about my other questions?? So basically change the cam and lifters.. What are the best cam and lifters you can get for this engine regardless of price? Is there a big hp difference between the options? |

To answer your question plainly Yes there are parts you can get to add power to your set-up if you're going to do the conversion. You have to buy new lifters, cam, chain, rods, etc.......... anyway. (give or take some, I'm not really sure how many are still useable but I know the cam and lifters have to be swapped)
To do a straight stock LS3 conversion you're going to basically get the original power loss back minus the miniscule compression ratio loss of the L99 piston heads. (negligable) You'de be a fool at that point not to go with a bigger cam. (your warranty is gone anyway) Won't cost that much more and will net you about 70 (give or take) more hp at the crank over the stock cam. So if you add the original 26 hp recovered from the conversion you're in the neighborhood of 90 HP gained for about the same cost. (My numbers are based on a decent cam, different cams can provide greater or lesser numbers) As far as cost I'm not sure. I had already installed my own blower and they had to remove mine so it added to the cost of labor. As far as parts, again, I'm not sure exactly what parts you can reuse but you're gonna have to replace the cam, lifters, rods, timing chain, rings etc......... There are some things that you just want to change while you're in there like new oil pump, better chain tensioner, better valve springs and such. |

Ya, with mine they had to remove and reinstall my supercharger so it may have bumped the price up a bit. Upgraded the oil pump and the valve springs are going to need to be upgraded if you do a bigger cam. (which would be crazy not to at that point) Now your cam will be limited to about a stage1 comp due to your stack torque converter but you can still add a lot of power and the feel will be awesome. You can go to a more aggressive cam but you'll have to swap the torque converter. |

I am doing mine next week... I still don't understand why some people charge 800 for the VVT/DOD delete and others charge around 400-500 (while they don't include the oil pump).
