Warning: There may be ice on the DIC

hum, thats some thread title.

anyway, i got this warning on the dic this morning as i was making a turn.
Is this just a seasonal type of warning because winter is almost here? The roads are dry and its not even winter yet so i was a little confused as to why the car was giving me the warning about ice on the road.

When the outside temp hits 37 (or lower) degrees the DIC automatically indicates an Ice Warning - I don't mind getting the message especially if your car is in a garage overnight (usually warmer than outside) and you drive in the early morning it reminds you to think about road conditions.

It comes on at 37. Bridges and over passes may of froze and ice will still be on them at 37 since they do not have warmer earth under them. Just a nice warning to be carefull.

Yup mines came on this morning when I went to Starbucks... it was like 37 outside when I pulled it out the garage. When I saw the snowflace on the dash, I had a flash back from "Snow"maggedden that pounded the DC area LOL

When the humidity is high and the temps start to drop, you get this warning.

The temp of the air at shoulder height my be a few degrees warmer than at ground level.

High humidity + low temp = Black Ice

I've ALWAYS heeded this warning in my Monte Carlo's and other vehicles equipped with the DIC.

Seen too many people wreck or spin on "dry" roads when I was a truck driver.

It gets annoying.. it comes on every 15 mins for me... It could be because the temp was bouncing between 37 and 38.

My last three GM vehicles have done this. Either in the Driver Information Center - ICE POSSIBLE, or on the rearview mirror - ICE.

Each vehicle, including the Camaro, this shows up at 37 degrees. And, it seems like fluctuations between 37 and 38 will still cause this to toggle through repeatedly. I do appreciate the warning; it's a good wakeup call.

Better safe than sorry - black ice is easy to forget about!

Yeah, went swimming today (got a little sunburned) with temps in the
mid 80s. Florida sure sucks this time of year.
