Ice Warning on my info center!!

While driving home from work yesterday I looked down at my digital speedometer... it had changed, there was a road with a big snowflake in the middle of it & the words "Warning Ice Possible, Please Drive with Care" (or something to that effect). After a bit, it went back to the speedometer. Then it came back & this went on until I got home. It was 37 degrees & a clear sky. Now, albeit, they were prediciting snow the next morning.... but two days earlier, I went to work with snow falling on me all the way & the temps were 31 - 34 degrees, that message never came on.

So I read the manual & all it says is that message can appear.

What I want to know is, HOW the heck does my car know there MIGHT be ice on the roads?

I KNOW Ruby is special, but I didn't know she could predict the weather!! WOW!

It just warns you once your temp reads that its 37 degrees out because thats the cut off point to when ice can survive on the roads. No big deal. It's more for people like me in MI, where its 36 degrees here now and snow has fallen and the roads are icy.

Ok, so when I got in Ruby this morning & the outside temp was 29 degrees, it didn't come on at all. AND It didn't come on Wed morning... when it was 31 degrees & snowing. ???

So, y'all are saying it just comes on when the outside temp is 37 degrees. If the temp goes lower, it's not gonna come on??? Interesting, cuz I think ice can form & hang around way below the 37 degree mark.

THANKS y'all!

Yup pretty much if you get in the car and temp already reads 20 degrees it won't come on. For some reason it only does it when the temp is above 37 and only happen once the temp goes down to 37. It's really weird. I guess it assumes if the temp is already 29 degrees when you get into the car you should already be aware of possible ice.

At 29 it's normally too cold for ice to form. Any precip would be frozen before it hit the ground as snow.

I believe it comes on to alert you the weather is changing and ice may be now forming where it wasn't earlier. If it's already cold it assumes you know it's icy.

If the road was already wet before the temp dropped it is possible the Ise is just forming at 29... depends on how warm the ground was beforehand. but mine on my HHR always gives the possible Ice warning anytime the temp falls below 36 or 37 degrees F..
