Funny I come across this thread, I live in Hawaii (military) and I was tailing my buddy home from work to check out his new house. On our way there, I spot two cop cars along side the road for whatever reason, but I figure that I'm fine since I'm going with the flow of the traffic (again, tailing my friend, going the EXACT same speed) Now idk if it was because of the Camaro, or me being in a military uniform, that the cop takes the time to pull ME over (again, going with the flow of traffic). Long story short I got away with a warning, I'm just still wondering why I was the "chosen one" lol

Another time a few months I was pulled over omw home, and while the police officer was writing my ticket, he asked questions like "how does she ride?" "how fast have you gotten her up to?" and told me how nice the car was lol. I could tell that he was genuinely interested by the car, but I still got that ticket!

Iv'e gotten pulled over three times in the 01 camaro, just to make sure the insurance was ok, or just to make sure things were in order. I was 16 then... Im 18 now, Ive got an '11 Sierra (yes I kick myself every day for not getting a Camaro) and ive had the truck 4 months now and i havent got pulled over. Cops dont even look at the truck when i go by.

Other than this clown I have only had thumbs up from at least one CHP officer, and other cop that have been behind me have never bothered me in the 19 months I've had this car, and it's my everyday driver.

Don't take this the wrong way but i would think naming the officer is potentially future trouble for you. If he really is that sports-car oriented this may come to his or friends of his attention? Also in my opinion just typing his name is unjustified in a forum.

We all add things to our cars legal/illegal that draw attention from others. Police are very observant sometimes too much so and there are the good ones the bad ones. I would speak out against unjustified harassment by Police but if i deserve the ticket etc i pay the man :]

Yea, you were...your tint.

You guys who say you can see just fine at 5% at night are just flat out lying.
I am not talking about 5% in a WELL lit area. That doesn't count. Try manuevering this vehicle in a dark neighborhood or parking lot. It just doesn't happen. The windshield visual may be fine, but not the side windows. I have 20/20 and have never ever had issues with vision. I still have to roll down my windows at night when I back into my garage and driveway...and I only have 12%.

5% is pretty ridiculous, some stretch limos have lighter tint..you will be stopped and it is not the cops fault. I am not a big ticket writer, I MAYBE write 1-2 a week and they are all "fix it" tickets. My primary focus is K9 enforcement..K9 units are authorized to tint down to 5% to keep cabin heat minimal for the dog. It is terrible, I would love to trade up to a 15-20. I literally have to roll down windows when backing up these vehicles.

Also, not bashing anyone here...but walking up on a car with less than 10% with the windows up is the most unsettling thing I have ever done. If any of you are in Orlando and want to do a ride along, I will gladly let you sit passenger then get out of the vehicle with me and walk up to a car with the windows up, ignition on, and have that car occupied with someone behind 5% tint...my guess is you will either want me to give you a gun as well or you will decide to walk back to the car. Again...not a bash, just trying to educate on the reasons why things are handled certain ways. He didn't point the gun at you, he only put his hand on a holster. A holster that is 3-4 inches above our waist line. I have to be careful not to just rest my arm or hand on it when I am sitting in line at publix...it happens.

Many cops are just like regular people that want to see and talk to an owner. I have been pulled over 7 times in 3 months with no tickets or warnings. They have always been young patrolmen who tell me right away they didn't stop me for a violation but just wanted to look at a nice car and ask a few questions about the car. Then on your way. It didn't bother me being done that way, but being harassed would cause problems. I drive my SS carefully and not very often and a clean driving record helps alot!

i completely agree. i was on the freeway the other day doing 5 over the speedlimit. i was in the fast lane and the other two lanes were full of cars (traffic was bad).. i see a CHP coming up behind me fast so of course i put my right blinker on and speed up to well over 80 so i could get out of his way and when i moved over he waved a thank you and kept going.

i figure he's in a hurry to get somewhere and i wanted him as far away from me as possible.
For whatever reason, cops always freak me out even when i'm not breaking the law. Mostly because i'm so scared of getting a ticket. lol

too bad im not in Orlando, i'd love to go! sounds like fun

i agree with the tint on the windows. i have mine tinted mostly because its so darn hot in the summer where i live. Knowing that the cop doesn't know who i am, or that i'm an upstanding citizen, i ALWAYS roll my windows down when they light me up, keep my hands on the steering wheel until they ask me to get my DL and registration. Most people forget that the officer has no clue who you are or if you have a gun in the car.

Yea, it does sound bad when some cops say "if you see us behind you just move over". Most don't mean it in a disrespectful manner, however there are calls as I am sure you know that do not warrant us utilizing lights and sirens. One of those for us is residential alarms unless it is a "panic" trip. Well..I like to treat people the way I would want to be treated. If my alarm goes off I would like cops to get here fast..subsequently, I have been at fault for getting upset when people don't move and I am enroute to an alarm or something of the sort. I don't stop people or belittle them because they didn't move, but....a word of advice. Just move guys...if you move, I am also not staring at your tag or any equipment violations. Speeding up to 80 was kinda ballsy though? Props to you for living life on the EDGE!!!!! haha

When a cop or even Joe Citizen sees a car like a Camaro, he knows why you bought it. I have an SS. I did not spend the extra money on the V-8 for bragging rights, I bought it to be pressed back into the seat when I step on it. A Camaro SS will most certainly get more police scrutiny than Prius, what do you expect?

I don't think it sounds bad to say move over if you see a cop, its logical.. people need to quit playing games and get the hell out of the way! i get road rage bad when people don't move over to the slow lane when they're CLEARLY doing under the speed limit (GRRR but thats another post for another day) i

Haha yeah well i wasn't really thinking about being ballsy, i wanted to get the hell out of the way. Plus i figure if he had pulled me over i'd have said, "hey i was just trying to get out of way plus i slowed down when i switched lanes *eye lash flutter*

Word! I hate tinted windows on traffic stops, chances are my strong hand is indeed on, or resting near, my duty weapon. I mean no disrespect to anyone when i approach that way, but I plan on going home at the end of every shift. And afterwards, it does make an awesome arm rest, lol.

Oh, and those who think we are jealous, lol. Seriously? I have my own Camaro that gets driven to work everyday, unless I'm on my Road Glide. Jealous? Hater? Do us a favor, and don't generalize all us into one group based upon a singular experience. As previously mentioned, there can be a lot more going on then you think there is.
