+1 If drag racing is all you want get a cheap 4th gen and use the extra $50,000 on engine and drivetrain.

If you don't want a Moustang/Rustang to outrun a Camaro, then you better tell Chevy to up the HP or lose the weight. The ZL1 is one of the slowest 580HP car in the quarter miles. |

If these runs were on a cold dusty track, there's nothing for me to worry about. Still - I want the best performance possible. It all comes down to a balancing act though...

Those run were also by a PRO Randy P. If he can only pull out a 12.1, what can an avg joe do? If anything, the magazine test confirmed what Chevy already posted. The ZL1 is a 4 sec 0-60/12s car. It got great handling, but straight line speed is a little lacking. The ZL1 should strike fear when you see it on the street, but it's not. Motor trend actually got the BEST performance number out of all the magazines now. The other magazines are even worst. |

It will certainly be interesting to see how it would fair against the LS AT LS! I'm also eager to see what the GT500 will bring to the table.

Everybody want to compare the ZL1 to the new GT-500. What will they compare the ZR1 too? Ford has nothing for the Vette, if the 500 is a Camaro fighter.

The MT pro driver said the 302 was beating him to death and depriving him of the confidence the ZL1 gave to him. The numbers backed it up. The other thing we should consider is that we KNOW Ford was trying to deliver a knock out punch with the 302. Trouble is, GM didn't come with what they expected. So, some may say that Ford is always beating GM to the punch., but with these results, I'd say NOT!
I love what the tester in the MT article said about the two cars: The Camaro clearly came out on top of this fight. Although the Boss 302 is probably the best Mustang ever built, it just feels and performs like it's a generation behind. Randy summed it up: "The Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca was my favorite American musclecar -- until today." It isn't the lack of power; it isn't the lack of amenities. It's simply a lack of technology. The Camaro is the benchmark for a new class of vehicle. Call it the Power Pony, the Warhorse -- the name isn't important. What is important is ZL1's on-demand attitude. Supercar levels of performance, with the daily driving comfort of a GT, wrapped in a nostalgic package. GM did great on this. We KNOW they are coming with a 650HP "piece" soon. It might help them. What I am wondering about now, is "what" will GM actually do if they come with the Z28? That's for the other forum. But...it does show they have some good numbers to match from the Stang. I know this... the ZL1 OVER DELIVERED. |

I am sure some magazine will pit the 13 Gt500 against a ZR1 this summer. Does anyone expect the ZR1 to lose at twice the cost of the GT500? If the GT500 can hang with the ZR1, it will be a miracle. |
