3k would get you the best 3800 stall lock up convertor available SS LT headers and a nice set of Mickey T drag radials and some trailing arms.

You would be running low 12's with the proper tune.

Then you could save for H/C.

You could then match the cam to the convertor.

Where are you finding the wheels and tires so cheap? I cant seem to do better than 1600 for the wheels and 1600 for the tires.

You don't need new wheels there are lots of used ones for sale.

Most 18" BMW wheels will fit and you only need 2

They use a 5x120mm bolt pattern

When I built my 99 TA I used mostly used parts and including the price of the car I did it for less than 11k US

It ran 12.1 or 12.2 all day long at 110/111 mph in the quarter

Parts for these cars are a bit more expensive but you just need to look around.

I found my 5 spoke ZL1 wheels on here at a great price a few years ago

That makes good sense. I will keep an eye out for used rims.
