Do they have to put wholes in the bumber for the park assist?

I'm not really sure how the park assist sensors work (seeing as the newest car we have is an '03 Suburban), but I'm guessing the answer is yes.
Anyone care to help me out here?

You mean, if you put them on cars without them? Or when they do it factory?
