Newbie! Needs Gift Advice ..

Hey guys, my names Anthony. I'm a member at lxforums and srtconnection.com.

I own an 06 300C SRT8 but dont hold that against me.

My old man has a yellow RS/SS 6spd .. his performance mods are mild but I need help adding to the list ..

current:
Hennessey CAI,
Diablo Predator,
Magnaflow Exhaust ..

now I expect there are similar mods available as the SRT's .. ported TB's, CMR tunes, high flow cats, headers etc ..

I was thinking about getting him a short throw shifter .. any help you guys can give I would appreciate it.

Merry Xmas

Anthony

Agreed....an aftermarket shifter changes the feel of the car.

I personally like Hurst and MGW:

The Hennesey CAI came in dead last, barely better than the stock box, in a recent shoot out. Not sure if they made improvements to it though. Tuner devices "can" void the 5yr/100k mile drivetrain warranty. Don't know if that's something he would be worried about but it's something to consider when thinking about one as a gift.

A good CAI will make the exhaust note much more aggressive when he gets on it, in addition to adding a few extra horses. Roto-Fab, ADM, CAI, OTR, Araid, Haltech, and Fastlane are the ones off the top of my head. They range in price from $300 to $500.

In addition to performace mods, there are a host of cosmetic and style mods that help make his camaro his own. Drop springs or coilovers are very nice and help with the understeer of the car. Sway bars and poly bushing inserts also help with the handling.

The list in almost never ending. The question is, how much are you wanting to spend?

wow ... thanks for your quick responses guys.

I just ordered the Barton shift kit after doing a search on your forum here .. the guy dave at barton is a great guy and it looks like he has a quality product!

now money wasnt really an object .. so lets go this route ..

coilovers .. what manufacturers are there .. I know Pedders makes stuff for SRT's and Camaros .. anyhting on KW, Eibach or direct from Chevrolet ??

other question .. if you use a handheld tuner WITHOUT a custom tune, you void the warranty???

last one .. trash the hennissey intake and Roto-Fab??

he has painted stripes and the ground effect kit and the RS kit so I think he's got all the cosmetic mods he needs ..

he has slammed his escalade and ssr so he would probably be into the coilovers .. thanks guys!

Pfadt as well as Pedders. Coilovers would probably be the best but not cheap at all.

Yes...replace CAI with Roto-Fab, Halltech, or ADM.

Yes....any tune other than from GM has the potential to void your warranty.

Have you looked at AACstyle yet for LED lights? The Afterburner tail lights are awesome looking to me. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52193

Nothing better than spending other peoples money...

That's probably going to be a matter of preference. I don't have either one (since I don't have my car yet) so I can't give you any personal opinion.

Thing is those with Hurst are going to swear by them and those with the MGW, MTI, or Barton are going to swear theirs as well.

Probably any of them are going to be good. It's just a matter of price and if you like the handles/knobs available from the shifter mfg.

That's why I'm torn on Hurst or MGW. I like the Hurst stick the way it sticks up out of the boot and of coarse Hust is just a classic shifter. On the otherhand I really like the Race Knob offered by MGW. Pricing on those are going to be about the same.

Again, it will be your personal preference.....Do you research. Ask others for their opinions in order for you to help make yours.
