I know the OP. I assure you he doesn't mind at all. In fact, if his thread helped get you to start AC he is almost as excited as you are about doing your first.

When you have done your first, please post a link to your thread so we can all check in.

PS: If you have questions about doing your first AC, I am inviting you to ask them here.

Sorry for the delayed response. Just got back from vacation. Should be able to get to my next event in June!

Feel free to ask me questions, it has been an amazing journey getting to know the 1LE better and learning car control.

Our 1LE is ridiculously capable out of the box, enough to be best-in-class for most regions which a set of good tires (RE-71Rs for now) + alignment.

Great thread!

I just picked up a 2015 2SS 1LE with the specific intention of autocrossing it. A set of Forgestar wheels, 305 RE71R’s and custom valved Koni’s have already been ordered Now I’m just researching which catback & x-pipe to get in order to cut weight and hopefully pick up some power.

My one gripe so far is that since my car doesn’t have Recaro’s :( and does have a sunroof :( :( with a helmet on my head is right against the headliner. I don’t really feel like spending $2500+ on a set of Recaro’s so I desperately need to figure out a way of lowering the driver’s seat a bit (perhaps shaving foam or modifying the bracket)?

Not an ideal situation but, you might consider leaning the seat back a little and, if the reach is farther than you're comfortable with, scoot the seat forward some.

Or, get the body shrinker doojamaflob and get yourself a tad shorter?

Yah that'll be Plan B, ideally I can find an upholstery shop here in town that can shave 1/2"-1" of foam from the seat base. I'm not even tall at 6' so I wonder how anyone taller can race these cars.

I've autocrossed, tracked and run a few passes on the strip with my 2015, and didn't really notice a problem. Helmet does rub a little during bumps but nothing that I really noticed all that much. I'm 6'1" but more leg than body so.... I wish the telescoping wheel would adjust a bit farther but I suspect it's limited by airbag regs and such. I can't fit in a 6th gen at all unless I lay the seat down a ways and then I have to scoot the seat so far up to reach the wheel my knees are in the dash. They definitely didn't build these, either 5th or 6th gens, with folks over 6' in mind.

Even with the Recaro's my helmet is against the headliner. I am 6'0" and do not have a sunroof.

Darn I was hoping they'd be lower.

I found a local upholstery shop that is willing to shave some foam from the seat base, I'll see if that helps.

Mount them on the floor without the seat tracks.

Great read this morning! lots of new stuff for my brain to mull over...
I love those wheels did the front/rear clearance remain the same on the insides with those provided offsets? pretty sure even with my 650 ish mm top of fender to center of wheel the fender rub won't be a factor just don't want to remove negative camber on the fronts mainly

I want to be more clear on my comment about the Recaro' s and head clearance. You CAN sit in them without hitting the headliner with them adjusted down in the rear. However that positioning is not ideal for Autocrossing. You WANT to be as high as possible giving you the best view possible over the front/nose of the Camaro.
So the Recaro's CAN keep you lower, you just don't want that view when those cones come up fast. Especially the passenger front side.

Is this really an option?
