Honestly though, a sunroof kills head room for anyone wearing a helmet. Its kinda hard to come on here and argue that the GM engineers got it wrong by not offering an option that doesnt relate to the track focus they were after. No offence here, but I honestly think you fall in the category of Z28 buyer who missed out on getting the car you knew of as a Z28. Ive always thought that the 1LE should have been a street version Z28, one that could be optioned well, but not be that over the top track car that we got, which out priced nearly everyone that wanted the Z28 they grew up with in the 70s-90s. I grew up riding in my dads 80 Z28, so I would have been a buyer had the 1LE been badged a Z28.

They didn't leak when they were new back then either. A friend of mine cut T tops into his 4th gen and they didn't leak, but I don't know for how long. I would suggest a person take theirs to a place to get them cut in if a person wants that free and open feeling. If that's not to a person's liking, I'm sure a shop would cut a sunroof in it. Just thoughts. I like mine with a hard top.

You get decreased head room (for some drivers depending on how tall you are) with a helmet on. Again, in a track car these are not things you want. |

When I built my E46 M3 from a street car to race car it had a factory sunroof, when taking it out and weighing it, the glass and sunroof track w/all the fasteners was 40lbs. Taking that much weight out of the top of a car is HUGE. |

There was one posted in Camaro Bowties, but I can't find the post of course. It was not just for driver and passenger, they were shaped to cover the back seat passengers as well.

[QUOTE=Norris Camaro;10038337]I just might do it cause I'm not so anal like some of you guys. No big deal to have an extra 5-10 pounds added to my roof. Pics gonna make ya'll really jealous especially when I do it up right

Just an FYI but, it's more like 60lbs if I remember right.
You'll need to replace the roof panel. You'll have to remove the front and rear glass to do this. Which means you'll probably have to replace them as well. Remove the center beam that goes from the C piler to the A piler. Paint the new panel. New headliner. You'll also lose the the reverse tomahawk design off the none sunroof cars. It will be pretty involved to say the least but it can be done if you desire. |
