Keep your mitts off of peoples cars. Theres no exception for me. I wetsand and polish writing off of cars all the time from these situations and it can run 30 to 70 bucks to totally remove it if it scratches bad enough depending on the dirt and pressure.

So I just washed and waxed the Camaro this past Saturday. I dropped my son off at the gate for the football game so he wouldn't have to carry all of his equipment from the back 40. Had to park in the grass just below an access road. Unbeknownst to me, there was a gravel section above where I parked where the pavement was awaiting repair (ten to fifteen feet long). Now I had pulled further up in the grass away from everyone else so no doors would open up and this put me closer to the dense grade gravel section.
It was 75 minutes before the game and I put the seat back to get a much need nap in. I was awaken by a four wheel drive truck nailing it in the dense grade that sent a plume of dust up and on my Camaro as he left.

Take some wheel weights off your calipers and attach them to the middle of his driveshaft lol.

Starting to see the point about parking it in a regular spot rather than out at a distance..Went to the local mall yesterday and parked clear out in the boonies without a car in site close to it and came back less than an hour later with crap parked on all sides of it...

I don't even have my Camaro yet and I'm getting nervous! It will be my daily driver, so parking is going to be a concern almost daily. Yikes!

The only problem with parking 'normally' is the dingbats that smash your car with their doors...damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Here's my two cents. I was sitting in Dunkin Donuts. My motorcycle was parked in front of the window. I see a little boy about five years old running towards my motorcycle while his mother did nothing. I went out and yelled at her to stop the kid. She started giving me a lot of s*&t about how important her little Johnny was. I yelled over her objections that the exhaust pipes were 1000 degrees. People have no comprehension of the value of your Camaro and in these days of non-parenting they seem to think that their children's right to express themsrlves in your paint trumps your rights as the owner of the car. I park in the furthest spot from the door when I am in my SS. I make it so that if someone wants to mess with my car, they must make an effort to do so. The easiest way to invite damage is to take more than one parking space. I never do this. Get some Harley-Davidson Glazing Polish, this stuff works miracles and should remove the fine scratches.

I've noticed that a lot myself.

My Aztek is nothin fancy, but for 7 years I've managed to keep it dent free (and dings to a minimum) by trying to choose the safest spots and not trying to squeeze into tight spots, but it inevitably happens that someone isn't careful when opening a door.

One of my friends is the worst offender. I may have to ban her from the Camaro.

People touching it sends me over the edge..I didnt have it one day and went to the Toyota dealer to get a refund on my extended warranty from our old car..Pulled it in behind the service area and within two minutes some old fart was peering inside leaving palm prints all over it..I walked out and said...Like the car? He said oh yes....I said great, you can wash it now! I think its cool that people admire the car but keep your damn hands off it!

+1..

You could make a police report and inquire at Lowes about the footage. Most insurance companies will waive deductable and pay for the damage being the vehicle was parked.

Total disrespect for others property, even if it was a rusted 20 year old car. If it were me, I would be pissed as well and exhaust all avenues to attempt to locate the a-hole. If you don't, you will ALWAYS be pissed and be unnecessarily weary of driving your car anywhere. If/when you find out, I would really take it to them.

Take it from a guy who gets pissed when I find flyers (crap) under my wiper blades. Damaging paint is an entire 5 levels higher than the former.

Oh, I know...I always hate that flyer stuff, too. I can't believe people have the nerve to touch someone else's windshield wipers. That is so dumb, too-who would patronize any of those places? Maybe I will call them later and say "I would never use your service/product/church just for the mere fact you TOUCHED MY CAR!" But maybe not. I'm a wimp.

But as far as the nasty Lowe's fingerprint thing is concerned, I think that the video camera idea is good. Not that anything would come of it, but it might put a scare into those rude people.

I drove out with my wife to go shopping this weekend. I parked "out" when I came back some had pushed a cart into my car. Lucky it "only" chipped the paint on the rim. (It hit the rim not the car.)

This is my 2nd parking lot damage. The first was a person hit my back bumper and drove off. Had to replace the bump that time. Ironically the dealer washed my car after they painted the bumper and now I have some serious scratches in my paint. (The decklid having the biggest one.)

Sigh.... just have to remember it is only a car.

Maybe it's just me but as long as people aren't physically damaging the car (scratches, swirlmarks, dents, etc) I don't care if they touch it or put there hands on it to see in the windows. Granted I don't have this car yet but I've got a '66 Coronet that gets looked at all the time and it's never bothered me, pretty flattering really in my opinion.
