Actually toyota lost a ton of customers from that...a lady I know was so fed up with her highlander's engine sludge problems that she ditched it for a Malibu and hasn't looked back since. Now considering an Equinox.

I forwarded this to my grandmother who drives a Prius. Her response: "Well at least I'll die getting 45.5mpg."

What I still can't figure out is how its possible to have a car accelerate because of the floormat. If the mat gets wedged under it that should reduce acceleration shouldn't it, since the pedal can't go down as far? And if its lying on top it shouldn't do much unless they're made of lead.
I'm guessing that they are blaming the floor mats so that they can fix an underlying computer bug.

But how hard can a mis-positioned floor mat push on the gas pedal? It doesn't make any sense. Rubber mats are flexible, they'll bend before then can depress a pedal a couple inches. Thats what I don't get.

LOL its a big recall but its only a floor mat. Every manufacturer has had recalls. Gm had one where the orange seat belt buttons would crumble to pieces. I can almost bet the biggest thing is when people stack the mats. It says right on the floor mats not to use the carpet and all weather ones together.

I have to agree. I am not sure that I buy the floormat as the reason. Especially since this is supposed to be uncontrollable massive acceleration (or whatever acceleration these Toyotas can do). Think about it, you pull your foot off the gas pedal and just how much pressure can that floormat be applying? Something here doesn't smell right.

![]() short of replacing the entire section of carpeting, redesigning and replacing the pedal or floormats......I suppose there wasn't much else to be done. But really??

They should have this for cavaliers. My mat goes under the clutch and gets it stuck while its disengaged occasionally. Though its not as big of a problem because it doesn't floor the gas LOL
