Are you talking from the point of view of a Ford person? Or do you mean that? Because the M5 first comes to my mind....

And if I was GM, I'd rather make one more higher tier car than two more higher tier cars, it's more cost effect for a company that shouldn't be throwing money around at the moment.
I have yet to see a GT500 run 11.8 or as far as that goes under 12 stock in the 1/4 mile. And I read almost every car magazine. I also was going to purchase a 2010 GT500 before I got my camaro. You need to get the new Car and Driver mag. It has a corvette grand sport versus gt500. Corvette wins and it didn't run under 12 sec.

It wasn't a 2010 but it was a 2007. I'm sure the 2010's will get there, I could have swore I saw a place that had one going 11.8x's in an '10 but I can't quite remember the site.

But magazine test's aren't that reliable... I mean they run a GT500 vs. an SS with a .1 second difference. That's just misleading IMO!

Agreed...but not because they intentionally tried to make the GT500 look bad (or maybe they did, who knows). The car is just hard to launch unless you've practiced many, many, many times...the numbers are there to support a faster time, but the finesse is not.

and bud...check out that drag-times page again...that car had drag radials on it..................

Well shit I actually saw an exhaust. I honestly didn't look down that far cause it had STOCK STOCK STOCK on everyone of them. The quickest stock one on there was like 12.20... I gotta find that website where I saw one run a 11.8 stock!

There are freak cars out there...remember the 4th gen that ran a 12.7 or something crazy? Or the few C6s that can do 11.8? Impressive, but hardly a realistic expectation for a buyer to have.

I'm using the logic I see from >some< Ford people and applying it to the Taurus SHO. Not all Ford people.

Truthfully I don't buy into the "direct competition" thing at all. Unless of course you count me using it to lobby for things for cars I allready plan on buying in the first place.

My philosphy is all sedans compete with sedans. The only differance is the financial situation of the person shopping for one. Its the only constant available in every market segment regardless what the person is shopping for.
Price...and what you are getting for your money.

.
That is why I think too. If a person has $40,000 they are going to compare cars in that price range, no matter if it's a muscle car or sports sedan. Just like a person that has $50,000 will most likely compare a Corvette and a GT500.

+1. UNLESS...they need 4 seats, in which case, the matter of "what car are you looking for" comes into question.

Person A has $50,000 to spend on a car.
Person A probably has an idea of the type of car he wants to buy.
Person A is unlikely to be cross-shopping a base BMW with a GT500. But it can happen.

They still compare them if they buy one over the other because of seating capacity.
