Noob question here... Is there a way you can tell if you have the original?

I think the OEM batteries, and the new ones too, have a "Julian" date code stamped on the case. Also, the original label stickers are a bit different on the replacement versions.

Still starting my 2011.
I think its the OEM battery No tender during the winter. I will drive it when it's cold, just not on snow packed roads. Cooks out in the sun during the summer. Like 102SS did, I need to check the terminals for corrosion and make its not swollen and has not sulphated.

Mine is just shy of 6 years now since the car went into service. I was concerned on its condition and had my dealer load test it this past Spring & they said its still good so I'm motoring on with it for now.
Like a lot of cars on here my car sits a lot and is driven on short trips quite often when it moves which is tough on a battery but its still soldiering on. I do use a tender in the winter though except for the first year of ownership when I didn't think to. So maybe that's a factor in my favour too. |

2010, 40K, still on original battery but getting paranoid. How much are new ones from the dealer?

I paid ~$185 installed with 42 month replacement warranty. Took about 20 minutes for the install. Biggest, baddest, battery that would fit. 185/8 = $23/year.

Good to know, I can swap it myself I've had it out before it's a heavy one.

I'm on my 3rd, with just over 40k on the clock. I think short trips are my problem. A lot of "hot" starts.

This thread has me obsessing about my battery. I think I'll pro actively change it (rare for me do do that) Nov 1.
