Good point. I was implying manual tranny in my post you quoted.

I really don't understand why people complain so much about AFM. It's not like it reduces the Camaro to a Civic at all times. In my experience, AFM kicks in only when you're going down a hill or coasting. Basically any time you give it gas it uses all eight cylinders.

i couldn't fathom getting a V8 with an ATX

MTX for me all the way!!!!!!! I drive a stick for my daily driver, already. It's so 2nd nature that it doesn't bother me.

plus it keeps me feeling like my body is part of this beautiful car.

I've had my AFM on the Silverado while cruising also. but sometimes if you really want to get on it right away it takes a second for it to kick over to the v8 and that second or two that it hesitates can be a big difference in making it into the passing lane or having to slam on the brakes. . .

because when you start modding the engine, afm will limit your cam choices.

im betting one of the tuners that will be availible for this car will have the function to program out the afm and hopefully we will be able to mod the same as the ls3 engine

That's the first I've ever heard of an AFM engine taking a second or two (or hesitating) from AFM mode to rapid acceleration. Maybe it's your truck, or a line of trucks (I didn't know truck engines had AFM, but hey...I might have been under a rock), but the Malibu I drove (or was it an Impala??) had no hesitation at all when flooring it going from AFM to full throttle. Seamless acceleration.

No. And that's the point of this entire thread and pole question. If you want a manual, you will get the LS3. Likewise, if you want the LS3, you will have to learn to drive or be satisfied with the manual.

If you want the automatic because you don't know how to drive stick or don't want to drive it in trafic, you will get the L99 with AFM.

I guess I could have been a bit clearer on the question I thought everyone had already become familiar with this quandry, which is why I just wanted to see where people's priorities are: connection to the car (stick) and ease of modifications (LS3) or easy driving (automatic) with limited mods (AFM).

it might just be the loose converter that they put in to dampin when the engine switches over but it honestly feels like it falls on it's face for a second or two when it switches back if I'm trying to accel hard. . .like if I'm trying to get over because a car is coming up the on ramp and need to give them room.

plus I believe all silverado 5.3L V-8's have AFM. but honestly don't know if the flexfuel does or not. but that's the reason my truck was rated at 22 mpg until the EPA changed how they rate them down to 20 MPG. still means I get 500+ miles per tank on the interstate but yea.

The L99 is basically an LS3 modified so that it can use active fuel management. the extreme majority of the parts are common between the two engines. thus, for nearly all practical purposes the L99 (the one with the automatic) is an LS3. It makes a little less power but the transmission gives it better performance.
