Actually I would say there is an end in sight. The union contract should make a noticeable difference in about a year, and that changes GM's entire cost situation. Add in a new product onslaught that is precisely lined up with what the market is demanding, and you can see if GM can just hold out a little longer, they'll be pretty well positioned to thrive.

Some would say Ford is in a better position right now than GM, and I gotta say they have some pretty convincing arguments. That new Fiesta is exactly what I'd be looking for if I wanted a small car.

I think GM is in the same position look at the new Aveo, and the car to replace the Cobalt. Puck up the new motor trend if you want some info on it... might be wrong though seeing as what they wrote about the camaro before now was pretty much all wrong...

The Cruze should be a game-changer in a "medium" way. 45mpg?! on GAS???? And it's supposed to be very similar in size to the Cobalt, with a much improved interior, which is already selling like hotcakes...

However, it will probably be priced between Cobalt and Malibu; which will yield a better profit for GM, which = $$$. (It'll still be cheaper AND better-looking than a Prius, though)

Anyways, I'll be watching this special VERY closely.

Is the Cruze the name of the next cobalt/cavalier type car?

In general...yes. Some are saying it'd going to replace the Cobalt; others (from GM) say it won't...

I heard it will not replace the Cobalt. The Cobalt is selling well and is due for an update so it might be wise in this market for GM to have numerous small cars with good mileage rather than just one. This could give them multiple price points which could help sales and profits.
