I guess the reason I posed the question to begin with was just maybe the whole NASCAR thing would be enough reason for GM to keep the Camaro. It's a reason for me to have a glimmer of hope that they just might. Because at this point, GM would have nothing else to put on the track.

I don't think anything is official as far as discontinuing the Camaro. A lot can change in three years but I expect the next Camaro to be a hybrid unfortunately.

HELL YEAH BABY!! 200 hp Spark will be able rip some great times at Daytona and would kill at Sanoma.

This would help the fans a lot. When they start a lap, I could go down, get a beer, stand in line for a hot dog, take a restroom break, call my mom, check in with the office and back in my seat before they complete a lap.

And wrecks will be easier to take care of "....Oh My!! A Spark just flipped up on it's side. No worries, rescue crew flipped it back upright, no damage".

I don’t think NASCAR is as dead as some think, I’ve been to a couple of decently packed houses over the last few years, the coke 600 this year was pretty full, is it as good as it was 15-20 years ago? Hell no, but there are still people showing up. I do agree they have lost there way trying to cater to new audiences, Brian France didn’t do the sport many favors for sure.
As the winningest manufacturer in NASCAR history I don’t think GM will pull Chevy out, granted the Camaro race car has raced as well as the 6th gen has sold.
I don't recall ever seeing Camaros or Mootangs race in NASCAR in the 1960's. The rules from that era dictated the use of Full size SEDAN cars. Chevy used Chevelles, Ford use Torinos, Dodge used Chargers in the late 60's. Maybe the smaller cars were used on road courses or in a smaller supporting series? I would enjoy seeing any pictures of Gen 1 Camaros racing in Grand National Stock Car competition though. They say the memory is the 2nd thing to go, I don't remember what the 1st thing to go was...

Let me do some digging, I’ve seen a few references to this over the years. I thought it was crazy the first time I saw it my self.

Edit: I knew there was at least a race or two where they did run the Camaro, you are correct they were used in grand am, but when several of the drivers boycotted the 69 Talladega 500, Bill France had several guys from Grand Am, run the Grand National race. Childress was one of them and he and a few others were in Camaros. For some reason I thought the first gen raced more than this one race, your correct memory is the 2nd thing to go, did you ever remember the first? My apologies for getting it wrong the first time around.
Here’s a video that shows the car.

I’ve been a nascar fan all of my life, I still watch all the races, (thank heaven for dvr) I still get a huge thrill when they go off into one under full song on the first green lap when I’m there in person, it’s certainly changed a lot but I still quite enjoy it. I guess I’m a minority.
I do feel like Jim France being in control is a big step in the right direction.
