Season Points Award

I was lucky enough to snag 2nd place in season points in the Super Shifter class at the local track. After a 7 race series I was tied in first place with the 8 time track champion. We had a run-off race to determine the winner, and as luck would have it, my DS axle decided that was the time to snap. It was still a lot of fun and I couldn't have lost to a nicer guy.

I keep the broken axle stub on my desk at work to remind me what could have been. I'm not saying I would have won, but it would have been nice to run it out the entire 1320 ft.

I'll be back next year to challenge for the championship!!

Nice, congrats man! Any luck on cracking into the 11 second barrier?

I am curious, which DSS axles were you running? I am looking to maybe upgrade those this winter, and want something that will hold todays and future power

Thanks!! I never did dip into the 11s this year. Hoping to change that next year, but will likely need to swap out my cam for something more agressive first.

Sorry about the confusion. I broke my DS (driver's side) axle, but they are just stock axles in the car, not aftermarket. I replaced with stock because I'd rather break one of those than the diff.

Ahh, darn! You were so close, I was hoping maybe the cooler air would give up those numbers

And my bad, my brain read DSS axle not DS axle.

Have heard of others doing the same thing, running stock ones as an intentional weak link. I am hopeful that between the billet caps I have now, and adding an LPW cover at some point, that a factory rear will hold the power I am looking to throw at it. Especially since the suspension is stiffened up a bit too. Wondering if the tru track upgrade would be worth it now as well

Unfortunately, when we got good cool air this fall, my car was in the garage getting axles and a clutch. I was lazy and the jobs took me way longer than they should have so I missed all of the good test and tune days at the end of the season.

I've heard good things about the billet caps. Good luck with the LPW cover, i hear they are taking quite some time to deliver these days. I highly recommend the true trac. I've seen a couple 5th gens at the track spinning one tire after the clutches wear out. No such problem with the true trac plus it makes differential oil changes a little bit easier since you don't need to worry about friction modifiers.

Nice job Z! Hey you gave it a good run and now you got something fun to look forward to next season. Sounds like it was a blast doing a point series.

Congrats on making the finals.

I don't think your diff will have any issues with stronger axles.

I'm in an L99 with 3.91's, True trac, and DSS 1000 hp axles.

I broke a stock one too, passenger side, should have put DSS in when I did the True Trac and gear.
My car does 1.4X 60' times (125 shot) when it dead hooks, and no issues with the diff or axles whatsoever.

I actually picked up over a 10th in the 1/8th mile after putting the DSS axles on. The only downside to them is the car rides stiffer on the road.
If you haven't done weight reduction yet, that will get your car in the 11's without spending any cash. Take the passenger and rear seats out, remove the trunk carpet and battery cover.

Thanks! I appreciate the info. I'm thinking about several options to get into the 11s next year, but it might be as easy as removing some weight like you mentioned. Also considering a camshaft upgrade. I want to get rid of this Comp Cams junk and go with something from GPI.

I know, but I've got a bunch of Dr bills coming in so I'm going to hold off until I get all that paid for. It will probably have to wait until tax time.
