Winter Tires for 2010 SS

Okay, there seems to be alot of confusion on winter tires for SS owners. I appreciate that all the LT owners have found tire/rim sets for winter, but I haven't seen anything definitive concerning SS. On Tirerack I did find some 18" rims for about $130/ea and several tires ranging from around $150-180 (Goodyear and Blizzaks). Total with sensors was about $1,500. I can get them shipped them to my house and put them on myself and store the summers in the basement until April (oh yeah, this car doesn't even have a jack!!). I haven't ordered anything yet, but if they are offered as preferred packages on Tirerack, are they assured they will fit? The guy on the phone says they do, but just thought I'd throw it out there. Have any other SS owners had any luck?

I did not think the SS would take 18" because of the brakes?

Yellow, I think you're on the same page. I had the same rims, but the Blizzak LM-25's @ $150ish/ea, so the total with sensors was like $1,350, before shipping.

Again, like I said in my original post, everybody seems to be under the assumption that there are no 18" wheels that will fit the SS which is apparently innacurate. I think.

BTW, I went to Tirerack again this afternoon and it had a new preferred 18" package that consists of 245/55R18 Pirelli Scorpions and ASA rims for about $1,584, including sensors, before shipping. As of 2 days ago, this combo did not exist, it was the 225/60R18 package you mentioned.

When I ordered this car last March, I figured by now there would be a solid consensus concerning winter tires, but nobody seems to have a clue, which is a bit disturbing. I called the Chevy dealership Monday, talked to a mechanic, and he said "gee, I never thought about what to do for winter tires". Very strange.

I ordered that wheel size (225/60/18 Blizzak LM 60) for my SS from Tire Rack and the UPS driver just dropped them off. I took a chance and believed the guy from Tire Rack. I won't try them out for a couple of weeks yet Because it's still nice here but he said I can return them if they don't fit.

Would Tirerack ship something out that they were not 100% sure would fit? Other than clearing the Brembos's, are there other issues to consider? Offset, bolt spacing,...?

why not just use the front wheels all the way around and buy the 245 blizzaks on tire rack?

just saying that since the fronts fit on all 4 corners, use them. buy 2 extra fronts and the blizzak tires from tire rack. because it'll be more beneficial to have skinnier wheels in the snow so the tires don't "float" on top.

I feel you. I wonder where you can buy just 2 front rims though?
