I have a question about Ambient lighting - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I bought a set of door panels from a 2ss they have the silver inserts with the ambient lighting. My question is how exactly does the lighting work? Does the lights come on when the doors are open or when the headlights are on both or what? Seeing that my car is a 1lt it has the plug for the lighting there, but do i have to have the computer (dealer) activate the lighting?

any help?

My ABL comes on as soon as the lights are turned on.

Its connected to all the lights on teh dash, the intencity will go up and down as you dim or brighten the dash lights.

ok does anyone know if there is any way to use the ambient lighting from the 2lt and
2ss on the 1 lt? i ask this because the plug for it is on the door ready to be used, but there is no power to it when plugged in.

I wonder if this works like the 4-pack guages... when people put them in a 1SS or 1LT they were inoperable because the ECM lacks the required programming for the option?

i know all it needs is power, but i would like to plug and play. i really dont want to wire them in.

Are you saying that the ABL is there, but not plugged in? That doesn't sound right. I would assume that the interior parts are different.

im saying i bought doors panels from a 2lt or 2ss, and they have the ABL. my 1lt has the plug in for the ABL mounted behind the door panel. the plug on my car has no power.

(i assume gm uses same harness)

the question is is there a fuse, a computer tune, or what to make that plug functionable

I would think it would have to be programmed in the computer.

Just a check, but do you by chance have the dash lights dimmed all the way? My ABL turns off when fully dimmed.

i have tried with turned down and up, and i tested the wire no power

It's most likely a proprietary software upgrade to prevent aftermarket suppliers from making an upgrade kit for less money than GM will sell theirs for.
