If I look back and it's laying flat on the dash, THAT is a ticket. If I look back and it's leaning against the window at an angle, but is still legible, you are in the clear.

So...depends on the officer and how it's positioned.
Lol tag...i didnt see a tag in your dash at biffs

The following is from the TX drivers handbook, available online which I cut an pasted - - It is not definitive about where exactly to mount the front plate

Does that mean you have to have a front plate to pass inspection?

This is the first I've owned in Texas that didn't have a front plate, so I've never run into that before. Will it suffice if I stick the plate on the dash during the inspection?

I dont think so cuz none of my cars have a plate on the front and my dads car always passed inspection without a plate for the last 9 years and just last month i failed the stupid inspection cuz they said my wiper blades where bad and that i needed new ones and i said they worked fine and they just wanted me to buy from them and so to piss them off i went to walmart to buy some and then came back...

I haven't had a front plate on any of my cars for the last decade, and luckily I've never been pulled over for it. I definitely won't be putting one on my new Camaro.

That's why I have a ticket attorney!

Yep! I got a warning in Aledo Friday by one of the friendly State Troopers that hang out in Aledo ALL the time!

He told me I had to have the plate mounted on the front & that he LIVES in Aledo & since he gave me a warning this time, he will be "looking" for me now... to make sure I mount it. So, it makes me nervous to go into my own town!! Gees.

I went & bought suction cups & "mounted" the plate to my windshield. I sure hope that works! The guy was a jerk & I fully expect he will be looking for me.... he even asked if I had gotten a speeding ticket in my Camaro yet & I told him no, he said "You will." UGGGG!!! By the way...I'm a 55 year old grandmother!!

I need to find a copy of the law so I can carry it with me if I get stopped for it again. Anyone know where to find that?

May you all have COOL cops that let that law slide in your future!

Taken from Texas Traffic Code (The book with all the stuff u can be written tickets for):

§ 502.404. OPERATION OF VEHICLE WITHOUT LICENSE PLATE OR
REGISTRATION INSIGNIA. (a) A person commits an offense if the
person operates on a public highway during a registration period a
passenger car or commercial motor vehicle that does not display two
license plates, at the front and rear of the vehicle, that have
been:
(1) assigned by the department for the period; or
(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the
department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the
period.

As you can see it states only that the plate has to be on the front of the vehicle...no specific place.

Sorry this is kind of long.

http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.u...2.htm#502.0021

Texas transportation Code - Texas law for vehicles.

Sec. 502.404. OPERATION OF VEHICLE WITHOUT LICENSE PLATE OR REGISTRATION INSIGNIA. (a) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a passenger car or commercial motor vehicle that does not display two license plates, at the front and rear of the vehicle

Sec. 502.409. WRONG, FICTITIOUS, ALTERED, OR OBSCURED LICENSE PLATE. (a) A person commits an offense if the person attaches to or displays on a motor vehicle a number plate or registration insignia that:

(A) distorts angular visibility or detectability;

According to this the plates have to be in the front and back of the vehicle. Does not have to be attached and has to be at an angle that can be seen from the front of the vehicle. Does not say on the bumper or furthest front part. Just the front. As long as it can be seen on the dash it should be ok.
