No power to dome light - checked all fuses, all good...
Hi all!
I'm new to these forums, mainly because I am in fact a new Camaro owner. Just last week I bought a black 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS, a very very rare sight here in the Netherlands. I'm extremely impressed with the performance, looks, handling and features of this car, which makes a lot of sense having formerly driven a third gen Firebird as my "fun car" Now there is an issue with this car that I am having some trouble solving. My dome light doesn't work in any setting, not on the doors and not when turning it on manually. The door switch, at least in the driver's side door, does work, as the radio turns off after removing the key and then opening the door (until the door is opened, it keeps playing). The dome light switch itself is also fine, I checked it for making proper contnuity between the contacts and it does. I've checked the bulb, which was fine. I even placed a new bulb anyway, with no result. I've checked fuse 33 under the hood and all BCM related fuses in the dash. All fuses are fine. Nevertheless, I swapped fuse 33 under the hood out for a new one just to make sure, as others have solved this identical problem by replacing that fuse. Alas, no luck for me. Also, my dimmer switch works fine and is definitely not turned all the way down. The grey wire in the connector to the dome light does not, under any circumstances, receive 12 V, which it should according to the electrical schematics in my Haynes manual. I suppose this means that the BCM isn't sending the 12 V. The question is... why not? On a side note, my rear right side marker light is out (to be replaced) and the ambient light strip in the passenger door isn't working (haven't taken the door panel off to see what's going on there yet). I figured I'd provide these bits of info in case they could be related. Things I've already found/read/tried so far: https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71003 https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=209954 https://ls1tech.com/how-tos/a/chevro...-on-off-419767 Hope someone can help with this! And in case I do solve it, I'll make sure to post here on just how I managed... |

You used a test light to see if the fuse was actually getting power in the block?

No, I may try that, at least on underhood fuse 33. Although I think that more features controlled by the BCM would've stopped working if there was actually no power coming to the fuse and that doesn't seem to be the case...

Any other suggestions? It boggles my mind that all other BCM controlled functions do seem to work just fine, it's just the dome light that doesn't... |

Could be a broken wire or bad connection. I would pull the fuse out to kill power and then check the wire for continuity.

Just a thought, there is a button on the fixture to turn it off, you didn't by chance accedently turn it off did ya?? Done that wiping down the interior with detail spray and a towel. If not, do you have power AT the connector for the bulb?

Would you by any chance be able to point me in the right direction regarding which wires on the BCM go to the dome light assembly? The Haynes manual schematics don't show that part and based on the colours it could be several... |

I do wish it would've been that easy though ![]() I don't have power to the dome light, as I wrote in my original post and the title. I checked the grey wire for 12 V and it doesn't get it under any circumstance. |

It is with great joy that I can report I have fixed the issue!!
The problem ended up being simple. Right by the BCM connector X7, the grey wire that feeds 12V to the dome light had broken somehow. It wasn't difficult at all to identify the wire, because it was the only broken one and had the right colour... I repaired it (which was tricky, lying upside down on the driver's seat with my head hovering above the pedals) and now my dome light works as it should. I'm very happy! Thank you all for your support! |
