I ordered these bolts off of nutty.com since they had the flange head and are the black ultra corrosion resistant version. Looking at Hesster’s pictures of his installs and other pics online, I can see there is also a washer on the bolt.

What size and kind of washer should I be getting?
I see different options id USS flat, SAE flat, Grade 8 USS or SAE, Heavy Fender, etc.

Thanks again for all the help!

I just did a test fit on the new control arm bushing and it barely has any threads to use. Does that look normal? The bolt is 60mm long which is what the stock bolt is supposed to be.

I’m afraid if I add a washer that it won’t have enough thread to grip.

Of course all of my research and testing is done without having removed that part from the car yet. This is why I have so many questions. I want to make sure I have everything before taking it apart on the car since I will need to get it all done in 1 day.

Thanks

Since that bolt threads into the upper control arm, I don't think you will need a washer (no mention of one in the BMR instructions https://www.bmrsuspension.com/siteart/install/BK039.pdf) but that isn't enough threads even without one.

Do you have a reason to think that your OEM bolts won't be reusable? If you are in a time crunch once it is tore apart then you need to reuse the existing bolts. You can spend a lot of time chasing down bolts without your original in hand. Your only other option is to order one size longer and one size shorter than whatever bolts you are planning on replacing and even then you may have surprises.

Did you measure the length of the bolt you bought?

I will use the bolt on the car if it still looks good, but I don't mind replacing bolts if needed.

I did measure this bolt and its 60mm in length, which is exactly what the factory bolt part number says M14x2x60 (part number 92138935).

I have all the other bolts from GM, it's just these 2 bolts that have been discontinued. So I figure I made need them sometime down the line and would rather have them now if possible.

If anyone can actually measure their bolt if off the car, please let me know. Also, washer???

thanks

If you look at image 10 in their instructions, you can see the washer on the bolt they are pulling out.

thanks

You are right, I was thinking about a washer on the other side since you had a flanged bolt. Either way it's to short.

Unless your car is rusting away, there is no reason to think the anything will be wrong with the existing bolts. And for sure no reason to think anything is wrong with the OEM washer. I think you are over thinking it.

I probably am, as I tend to over think it when it comes to my Camaro. I research, and research, and ask, and ask, so that I don't make any mistakes during the install. I probably just need to relax and have a beer

I do appreciate the help though. I will definitely be measure the factory bolt length once I have it out to see if it is the same as the one I bought. I'm more curious now than anything.

thanks

Unless I’m missing something about how that goes together you better hope the pen bolt is longer. If you want to over prepare, get a 65mm and 70mm bolt ready to go. Don’t worry about anything special, just pick them up local, especially if you are going to be doing the work on the weekend.

Bolt length is almost always measured from under the head. You used some of the under head length by adding a washer to a standard hex bolt.

He’s using a flanged bolt and not actually using a washer in the picture and it’s still to short. The problem is more than likely the OEM description for the bolt isn’t right.

Correct, I measured under the flange head. The bolt was ordered as a M14x2x60 as well.

If no one has a before picture with their bolt in the control arm bushing, I will just have to wait until I remove mine. I'm going to call BMR in the morning to see what they say as well.

thanks

BMR has this picture on their website. It shows the flange bolt + washer + metal sleeve like I have.

It's a mystery!!

I did a search for GM 92138935 this morning and there is a listing on Ebay for it but you aren't going to be happy with the shipping cost (and even the part cost is high).

The more interesting thing I saw was an actual picture for that part number that popped it. It's hard to say for sure when comparing pictures, but it definitely appears from pictures that the proportions of the GM 92138935 are longer than the 60mm bolts you have posted.

There was also a note that the bolt is included with the control arm so there is chance that I have a couple of these in my stash. I'll look this evening and see if I can tell which ones might be them.

I heard back from BMR today and the bolt I have is correct. The control arm actually goes halfway through the bushing which means it takes half the threads that are inside the control arm bushing. This makes sense cause that silver metal sleeve they include only goes halfway through the bushing. I’ll take a pic later today and show you exactly how it works. I feel much better now since they cleared it up.
