Which exhausts have chambered mufflers?

My camaro should be here soon, so I've been going over all of the aftermarket exhaust videos again.

I had decided on just doing a muffler delete, but I figure that the decel popping would get on my nerves.

Then I thought I would go with borla, but I think maybe it is a bit too high pitched/raspy for me.

So now I am looking at the flowmaster for that deep throaty sound. Does anybody know which brands other than flowmaster use a chambered type muffler in their setup? Just looking for something to compare it to.

I hate to put on a chambered muffler, considering the stock one is straight through and no flow restriction. It seems like a step backward, but I think if you do a catback you will be removing the stock resonators, which are sort of the same thing....right? (meaning there is some sort of deflector in them so there is some flow restriction with the resonators?)

Sweet Thunder and Stainless Works both offer chambered setups.

Instead of going muffler delete, Im going with electric exhaust cutouts. Then you can be loud or quite, depending on your mood.

Well if these are the only two other options, it seems that flowmaster is the way to go. Both sweet thunder and stainless works are really expensive, and the sweet thunder has cheap looking tips.

Can't really find a video of the stainless works that is just their catback without the headers on it too. It sounds awesome in the vids but it's not really a fair comparison with the long tubes added on. Either way I'm seeing like $1100-1200 for the stainless works, when the flowmaster can be had for around $700. I know they use the cheaper 409 stainless, but thats ok with me. I'll spend the 500 savings on a CAI.

Smart choice.

EVeryone goes with the big names, well because they have heard of them. Do a search for SOLO on this forum and read the amazing feedback by a nice cross section of members on here. They have built a system for each Camaro model and engine. There are group buys right now for the L99 and LT's.

I swear by this 100% stainless high quality system. It is a straight through system, with a TRUE X resonator and nice 4.5" Tips SOLD AT A FRACTION OF THE BORLA, MAGNAFLOW, etc. AND THEY ARE MANDREL BENT, AND HAND BUILT !! So the systems line up PERFECT through the rear Valance with little effort. Also, unlike the factory system, it is perfectly mirrored from side to side, for more even flow.

The difference in performance is amazing and the new sound is EXOTIC MUSCLE CAR. SOLO has a one of a kind resonator that is designed with a true X inside. The pipe has a special wobble to it, special louvers, a combo of stainless and ceramic mesh, the mesh is in 4 sections to prevent that packing from moving around and the sound changing over time!

Read all the positive feedback by doing a search for SOLO and you will see how happy others are with SOLO PERFORMANCE!

It is a unique sounding, great performing, hand built quality stainless system at a price that better known companies cannot touch.

The video does it no justice but here it is............TRUST SOLO for your Camaro Exhaust needs and you will not be sorry.........trust all the feedback and other members like me that are super happy with systems!!

Just to be clear here; we're talking about the muffler shop (not a manufacturer) who apparently buys copies of Magnaflow products from a Chinese manufacturer, and fabricates pipes from bends and sticks, does no testing whatsoever except "seat of the pants" and seems to rely on you as their officaial spokesman/salesman?

Sure, they're a fraction of the cost. Zorro mufflers doesn't have a manufacturing plant to support, nor do they have an R&D facility to pay for. Those Chinese mufflers are really inexpensive, too, when bought in bulk.

Okay, where do you even start? A "true X" resonator? What you mean is the perforated (or louvered) tubes inside this dual-in/out glasspack meet in the middle. What on earth, though, is a "special wobble" in the pipe? Is that like a Weeble, so it won't fall down? And they had to make it so the packing material won't "move around"? So far, this sounds like something that "ShamWOW" guy on TV would love. You know, YOURS NOW FOR THE LOW, LOW PRICE...! BUY TWO, FOR A BETTER DEAL!

...Because of the overhead costs of actually running a manufacturing company, advertising products nationwide, paying a workforce, etc.

hadn't you said in a different thread that you DON'T work for Solo?

LMAO. You tell him. Maybe he just is part owner of the company?

Anyway, the subject of this thread was about chambered mufflers, which it seems to me Solo does NOT use. It sounds like just another borla, corsa, etc. that uses mesh packing material instead of deflectors to alter the sound. If I decide I want that I will go with the borla hands down.

By the way: The term "Exotic musclecar" is a total oxymoron to me. Exotic brings to mind the europeans like Lambo, Ferrari, whatever. A musclecar is american.

Wow wonder where JBT56 works? 3 posts and a newcomer to the forum and already being hostile?? Seems like you're a Flowmaster fan from your other post and they do make a great product. Nothing wrong with liking Flowmaster but WOW why the false and antagonistic remarks about Solo? If we're flying by the seat of our pants with no R&D, boy did we get "lucky" with our Camaro systems!

Actually I see this way. Solo actually has done R&D and developed a completely separate exhaust for the M6 and A6 to deal with AFM drone. As for Flowmaster, they just regurgitate the same system they use everywhere. No knock on flowmaster, they do sound nice and have a great price but to say Solo does no R&D, lol.

Ok guys, this thread is going off into left field.

First: Someone mentioned AFM drone, and I am getting an LS3 so it is not a concern for me. (I know how this can suck though because I have a pickup with AFM)

Also: As I said before I am looking for the chambered muffler sound, as I dont really think you can duplicate that sound with a straight-through muffler that has baffling. The videos usually sound great for ALL exhausts, but I think there is a raspyness to this type of muffler.

Just to confirm, the SOLO is not a chambered setup, correct?

Not that I'm dogging it though, just personal taste. I am two days away from owning my camaro, so EVERY exhaust sounds awesome to me right now.

Hi Defragme. Our set up is with a free flow muffler. It's not your standard free flow muffler with the standard free flow sound. It's designed differently. The way we designed our Mach-X muffler the exhaust sounds cancel each other out so we can have free flow and a wonderful exhaust note at the same time. Thanks for your consideration.

Sorry about that and hope I did not contribute too badly to the thread getting off course. To answer your question, if you are looking for chambered exhaust, the Flowmaster Super-44 mufflers I have are chambered as well as the 40 series mufflers that come on the Flowmaster AMT catback system if I understand correctly. These mufflers do indeed provide the closest thing to the old-school deep rumble exhaust you're gonna get without excessive droan or $ and absolutely no rasp whatsoever. From what I understand, the Super 44s are rated as Flowmaster's most aggressive muffler of the lineup. These reasons are why I went with Flowmaster products. Don't know anything about SOLO products. Hope this helps. Good luck.
