10L90E Swap: Is it possible, and how would it work?
Recently have been looking into 10L90E swapping my 6 Speed Manual equipped SS. I know it has to definitely be possible in some capacity as GM wouldn't sell the transmission and TCM if it wasn't. I'd just like to know if anyone has any sort of experience in the matter or relatable knowledge regarding an automatic conversion. Would I be able to use my existing ECU, swap out for an Automatic ECU, or go with a drop-in ECU? How would the transmission fit in the car, would it need to be modified to fit in? Seems like a daunting task as far as tuning is concerned, but on the mechanical side it doesn't seem all that difficult. Any thoughts?

does GM or anyone sell a standalone TCM for that? If so it might be possible. Still might have trouble since the stock ECM will be expecting certain signals that it won't be getting. And re-flashing to automatic operating system would only be worse. If GM has standalone TCM, a standalone aftermarket ECU might control the engine, but you will have to work around a lot of details to make everything else work.

I believe it was Janetty racing that posted on here they did some digging and it’s not possible with anything other than the modern LT engines.

GM sells the 10L90E with a TCM together for $5000. I'd like to think all it would require to hook up to the LS3 is the right adapter, or something of the sort. Don't see why it wouldn't be able to work tuning wise with a drop-in ECU.

all I know is that the 10l90e has more sensors and solenoids and isn't compatible with the canbus on the genv but with alot of work theoretically you can get it work with another ECU....meaning 2 ECU's.

I just bought a Silverado with a 10-speed trans. They have some quirks. They shudder a bit and just feel like they struggle to know what gear they want to be in. In fact, there are CSP's and TSR's on my truck and 6th Gen Camaros. Also, as I understand it, it was a collab with Ford. So you got that going for ya!
I guess I'm not completely sure if we're talking the same tranny but I suspect we are. https://gmauthority.com/blog/2024/03...on-gear-issue/

On a positive note, I will say, they have the DFM (new AFM) dialed in. You cannot tell when it's running on anywhere from 0-8 cylinders. No detection of it going in and out of it. While that isn't appealing in and of itself, I don't feel compelled to have it tuned out now. Sorry to change the subject...

I went to PSS and didn’t see anything for a 5th Gen.

It fits a G8 GT or GXP or the SS and Caprice so it will fit a 5th Gen Camaro.
