Need Help with Automatic Shift Knob Install

Hey Guys,

I have question for you.

My wife has a 2012 V6 Automatic 2LS.

She has had the car since brand new and has only recently started to want to upgrade certain aspects. Little things.

Latest, she wanted to get a leather shift knob to replace the stock shift knob.

she was able to search through ebay and found a listing for the following:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/32384857875...101949.m162918

GM Part# 92213917

Ordered it, it came in.

When it came time to install. I followed these steps.

1. E-Brake up
2. Turn the Key on, engine off
3. Put the car in neutral
4. remove the cap on the stock, and unscrew it.
5. Lift the stock shifter straight off
6. Slide the new shifter down
7. install new cap and screw

Voila! Or so you would think.

the shifter works perfectly, fits snug, and cycles through the gears just like the stock shifter. Unfortunately, the snag comes when I put it in park and go to remove the key. The car won't let the key out. This went on for about 20 minutes, and what I ultimately found was that if I lift the shift knob about 2mm, it works perfectly and engages.

My assumption is that for some reason, the shift knob, when pressed all the way down is not fully disengaging the trigger. It's enough that I cannot push the shifter out of park but seems to be tripping a sensor.

Unfortunately, when I lift the shift knob, the screw hole on the shift knob and shift no longer lines up.

When I went to the seller, they hit me with, "This is not compatible with your VIN number, sorry since you installed it, no returns."

So basically, now I am here asking if anyone has even experienced this and if they have, do you have any create solutions for this? Is it possible to disable the key off prevention?

When I look up the shift knob for that car I don't come up with that number. The VIN would help me confirm. I think its a 916 not a 917.

Here is the VIN number

2G1FA1E38C9199284

If I may ask, where are you looking? All I had available to me was the eBay web site...

Happens all the time when people swap shifters. Has to do with the park switch not being fully engaged.

Do a search on here for it. There are a ton of threads describing what to do.

Yes, 916 shows up as 2010-2015 but 92213917 only shows as 2014-2015.

I don't know if there is any real difference between them since they overlap. But Mouse330 may have better data than a random GM parts website.

For cheap bastards like me, those things are frickin' expensive! After seeing Jeweled's shifter and others' on here years ago, I went and priced them out. They were between 2 and 3 hundred bucks back then. I'd hate to see how much they are now.

Don't get me wrong, they are a great looking shifter but dang, the bang for the buck is just not there for shallow pockets.

Agreed! Glad I got mine when I did! Just like everything else, it has doubled in price over the last few years. I lost one of my headlight covers, or someone stole it when I wasn't looking, was going to get another set, but now they are 199 at Phastek!! I got mine back when they were just 99 bucks, and color matched.. Dang..
