What I ended up doing...
I use a CTEK brand charger, so I ordered their pig tail part # ART 56-380 which comes with a built-in fuse and is 5 feet long vs the one-footer that comes with the charger. It also has a battery charge indicator on the far end that's made to be installed into a firewall or body panel if you so wish.
Like several of you, I just ran it out the right side of the wheel well and clipped it to a cargo net hook. Now all I have to do is pop the trunk and there it is, attached to the rear trunk wall. No removing the Weathertech liner or tire cover to charge again. Thanks for the help guys - they were all good ideas

This is how I did it - no trunk or hood open and direct to the battery; just plug into the underside to charge.
