No inspections, no smog test.

And the transmission...

It's a TR6060.

It has speed sensor, back up light sensor, speed controlled reverse lockout, 1st to 4th skip shift....

If going stand alone, such as Holley Terminator X, do I just dump all this stuff?

Time to be brutally honest, not that long ago you swapped your power steering rack for an aftermarket manual rack without understanding all of the repercussions. The CAN bus is a communication system, fuel pump, fans, door locks ECT still run off 12v so they can all be made functional fairly easy, some other features the car came with not so easy-the fact that you are asking how tells me you are WAY over your head. You would be far better off to find a wrecked 2010 2SS and swapping over the computer and modules and rack. Once you sell the engine and trans you would probably be close to breaking even, far better off than your plan on spending thousands to destroy your car

Yep!! Dude is clearly a genius. I’m sad a the thought of a perfectly good 5th gen getting aimlessly destroyed for no reason. I know I’m not alone here.

This is just dumb. If you’re not stripping the car down to pure bare bones and increasing engine power to 1800+HP? Absolutely pointless

Who asks questions about things that they already know and understand?

Don't all questions stem from a lack of understanding?

I could personally think of lots of uses for a bare bones 425hp car...

Lets say I made 1800hp with the LS3 in my car. What RPM would that be at? What power adder would be used? I imagine longevity would not even be a thing at that point. How often would the engine need to be rebuilt? What kind of fuel would go in the gas tank? What transmission and rear end would be needed? This sounds FAR more pointless than a bare bones car with a stock engine.

Call me crazy, but 425hp, NA, runs on pump gas and is "bare bones" and easy to maintain sounds like a good, fun combo for toying around.

What am I missing?

Well, that's the point. There are reasons. My idea, which is not set in stone yet, does not include any aimless destruction without reason.

It would just have a stand alone rather than the CAN. It wouldn't be much different than an OBD1 Camaro at the end of the day and would be lacking a few comfort features and other things only needed when driving on public roads.

Far from destroyed....

Yes, I was ignorant to the fact that the electric rack is part of the CAN.

No interest in buying a donor car. I could easily just have a few modules replaced and get this working just fine if I wanted to, which I may still do.

But, my personality is such that the stand alone, bare bones car is rather appealing. I am a minimalist. So, still on the fence.

So I got everything up and running.

GM control modules.

Had to have everything programmed and such.

Runs good.

This is how it will stay for now.

I have to say, I still don't like the way that this is anything but DIY friendly....ie mess with ONE control module the entire system is down.

The stand alone is still desirable, but not for now.

A brain. Sell the car and buy an 1980s car. Has ever you need and reliable
