Gonna write a “ramble” piece LOL. Just hit 50k miles. Been through a bunch of stuff on my 2010 2SS manual coupe. Originally black with cyber metallic gray(?) vinyl stripes on hood and trunk. Looks like prior owner removed decal stripes off of the factory trunk spoiler. I’ve since installed a used SS 1LE factory vented hood; as well as drilled out my trunk mounting holes, to install an Anvil Notch carbon fiber trunk spoiler.
I did a bunch of bolt-on mods at first, but knew I didn’t really wanna go crazy; especially since being NA, I could only make so much more extra power. Originally got a handheld Diablosport i3 inTune tuner, which I realized wasn’t able to do a whole lot, not to mention the device and software glitched a lot… Ended up getting an HP Tuners MPVI 3, which I used to create my own tune, and then saved the factory base map, which I use to flash back for bi-annual emissions/smog testing. I did some “practical” and aesthetic things in the engine bay, such as flipping the stock fuel rail and using a C6 Corvette fuel line. I also got rid of the 10-11 heater hoses, and instead got a Katech heater hose relocation set, which I could’ve honestly bought straight hoses for cheaper. I don’t think I’ll buy the actual OEM GM 12-15 Camaro SS heater hoses (has a metal hard line section), since my setup does just fine. The one thing I did constantly have issues with, was the clutch master and slave cylinder; which ended up being mainly the CSC… I got a remote clutch fluid reservoir, replaced the stock clutch line for a braided one (even heat sheathed it), and went through like 3-4 different CMC’s. Eventually, the CSC just crapped the bed like 2 months ago, and the plunger mechanism inside seized and/or had the seals inside fail alongside it. The green-colored dust boot tore (God knows how long ago), and this led clutch dust and other debris to accumulate inside of the CSC plunger. I’d always get clutch dust and other debris making its way through the clutch line and all the way back up into the reservoir. I thought this was weird, as it happened constantly, and I was also replacing CSC’s that would somehow fix the hydraulic clutch failure, just to fail abruptly 4-8 months later again. I started taking apart the CMC’s and would find nothing wrong, just to put it all back together and bleed the CSC. It would last a bit and then gradually start not working as well. You could feel the shift quality deteriorate, and I would constantly wonder if it was the trans fluid that was somehow “shearing” down (it wasn’t)… Aside from that, I’ve had to replace the hydraulic power steering pump. Most of the OEM ones are the nicest options, since there’s only 2 other upgrades available: Turn One and Lingenfelter. Turn One runs about $500+, and Lingenfelter runs about $900, not to mention a separate custom pulley you need to buy alongside it… All the aftermarket PS pumps are a hit and miss, and they sometimes trap air that can’t be bled, which causes noises and supercharger-like sounds when increasing the RPM’s. Brands like Cardone, were like a more expensive refurbished, aftermarket choice, but were still not as good as the OEM unit. Drifting and sliding the car, I loved doing when I first got the car. But then the PS pump would start making sounds and shearing down the PS fluid. I actually blew out my original factory PS pump so hard, that the center seal at the pulley, shot out all the fluid, all over my entire engine bay… I ended up adding oil stabilizer to the PSF, which helped thicken it a bit and prevent it from shearing down so easily. Doing u-turns with full lock of the steering wheel got much, much quieter after adding oil stabilizer. My leather drive side seat is worn in a decent amount, and some of the plastic underneath the leather seat cover, cracked, allowing for the padding to be loose and have a bit of play in some areas… My dashboard also started having minor cracks, so I got a custom fit sun shield for the front windshield. I also typically run a radar detector and dash cam, which are both mounted as much to the top of the front windshield as possible. In the really hot summers, I remove the devices before setting up my sun shield. Kind of a hassle, but it’s worth it, especially for a black-colored vehicle. |

BTW, I am at 174,000 miles, but on my seconds engine. L99 made it to 153,000 miles, but it was my fault it died (hydrolocked). My rebuilt LS3 has 21k on it since the build.
