I wouldn't exact say 'how few of them they were selling' Pre 1998 Gm was already talking about ending the 4th gen and the 1998 redesign wasn't even supposed to happen. They didn't build that many of them to start with so how well they sold isn't really an indication of how many still exist. How many they built on the other hand.....

The 4th gen is going to end up a pretty rare car. They sold more Camaros from 67-69 than they did from 93-02. They sold a ton more 2nd and 3rd gens than the 4th. Now think about how often you see any of those generations.

Add that to the number of people that drove them off of cliffs after dealing with the window motors and you have a VERY rare car

I must have been pretty lucky, I have owned two 4ths myself, put a combined 150K on the both of them, had to do one motor in each. I have known at least 6 other people with 4th gens and only 2 of them had to do a motor.

As time goes on, finding them for sale is going to get tougher. Finding one for sale in good condition is going to get even harder than that. That's just a general rule, happens as the car gets older.

Right now, you're probably seeing the sequel effect, like with movies. Since the new Camaro is out and getting attention, interest in the car has spiked, and those that can't get their hands on a 5th gen (like myself) will be hunting for these cars, and the people that already have one (like me) won't be selling. They'll be remembering how much they love these cars, and hanging on to them.

Don't give up though, they're out there. Just be ready to do some extensive searching, and when you find that one car that makes you feel funny in your special place, grab it! And then of course, post pics!

That commercial brings back good times. I got my 00 SS earlier this year with 21K miles on the clock. They are out there, you just have to find them.

Mine is completely stock, except for new battery. 14,717 miles. Hugger Orange with white leather, all options, except for traction control. T-tops and 12 disk Monsoon stereo system. Always garaged, never out in rain/wet pavement/snow. Pretty much immaculate. Back seats never sat in.
The car in my avatar just rolled 14K... Of course, most of that is between 660' and 1320' at a time.

Nothing wrong with those window motors!!!
Just kidding. I've heard of a lot of people with window motor problems.

I've noticed that there are more of the earlier generations for sale than the fourths.

That is sad to see, people abusing such a great car. It's ok to have fun, but don't treat it like its some trashy honda. Personally I'd rather drive a fast car slow than a slow car fast.

Most are getting high miles now. But, there will be a lot more than the 1st Gens we search for now.
That makes sence, I guess all things good/bad eventually come to an end.

I think it's just a trend all cars go through. You can't find decent 3rd gen without giving an arm and a leg just searching for it.
There was a time all 2nd gens went through this.
And maybe even 1st gens.
As a car ages, there are more and more people who take less and less care of them. Eventually, the paint peels, the engine takes a crap, the interior starts dying, all because people wouldn't take proper care of their car.
In the end, it just makes our cars worth that much more.

Hopefully I'll be able to find a decent one and be able to hold on to it for as long as possible.
