Talking Safety Belt Reminder System - Disable Audio

Let's build this list:

You can disable the audible noise when the seatbelt buckle is not in the latch by:
  1. Putting the seat belt buckle in the latch. <-- apparently this is the best option. Also, since everyone thinks you should use this option, legally you must use this one as well.
  2. By putting the other (passenger's) seatbelt buckle in the latch.
  3. By putting something else in the buckle. Likely a seatbelt extender?
  4. By cutting the wire to the buckle. How can this be done/undone?
  5. Putting a piece of tape behind the instrument cluster << what is involved here?
  6. ??
Questions I have:
  1. Are there any programmers out there that can disable this?
  2. Can the DEALER disable this?
  3. Is there a procedure to disable this? (like in Dodge/Chysler vehicles)
  4. Is there a fuse that can be pulled?
  5. Is there a wire that can be cut?
Also, if you would like to discuss my complaints on the 2010 Camaro's seat belt see this post: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...54#post1174954

Yes, I did try this again. New tactics!

For #5 in the first group there is no chime it plays through the audio system. Old vehicles had a little chime speaker under the dash, the camaro does not.

As for your Questions.

1. No as the programmers are all geared toward the ECM, more than likely its controlled by the BCM which I've never heard of someone attempting to make a tuner for.
2. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA It would be a cold day in ell before they help you disable a safety device, as well we have a hard enough time getting them to update our radios properly, they ain't gonna figure this one out.
3. I've never heard of that, but maybe someone else can "chime" in and explain it.
4. No because you would have to pull the BCM fuse.
5. Yes, you need to remove the drivers seat and get into the drivers side belt buckle next to the column, there should be a wire bundle going into there that controls this.

Driving a car without the seatbelt is againts the law and not a safe thing to do. Return the car and get something that works for you.

I think you said you are a fireman, you should of seen the effects of not wearing a seatbelt.

Please delete your post. Your post has NOTHING to do with that list. It is also ALREADY mentioned that you should wear your belt and that is it legally required to do so.

I will delete this one after you do so.

My Mazda had the most annoying seatbelt chime. It would start out as a slow beep beep and get progressively faster and faster til you are annoyed enough to put your belt on or turn the radio up louder to drown out the sound of the chime. I went to the dealer and they were able to (thru the computer programming) disable the chime. The dash light still lights up but no annoying beep. Maybe this can be done with the Camaro as well?? I know we should ALL wear them 100% of the time but I for one don't and the chime is annoying. Flame me if you will but I don't wear mine all the time...

the law has nothing to do with it, if youve ever driven a farm truck or drove a car around the sales lot you would understand, the seat belt chime is excessive and annoying. the manufacturer of a car isnt responsible for annoying me into buckling my seat belt..

nope...but they are going to have to deal with that idiot who tries to sue them for not having the chime when everyone else does...best to make it quite audible for any potential jury...

I know how to stop it from chiming...

wear your seatbelt! Please don't drive around with out it. I mean come on. You shouldn't even have to worry about whether it's legal or not. How about you do it because it's a safety feature. I know the belt can be uncomfortable at times, especially rubbing on your neck. But the alternative is not worth it. I found that adjusting the seat to a more upright position added a bend to the belt and took it off my neck more often.

get off you GD high horses people. If he doesn't want to wear a seat belt then F=ing let him. I don't sit in front of G.D. McDonalds tell the typical fat damn american not to eat there because it's bad for them. . . You guys are just as bad as the government. . . Forcing your "way" on others.

Explain this to me... it's not legal to drive around with no seat belt in PA, yet the same year they past the MINATORY seat belt law they also passed the law that you do NOT have to wear a helmet on a motorcycle.

Who cares about your opinion on why he should you you think he should.. if you can't answer his damn question hit the back button and look at another thread.

on another note i just put the seatbelt in the hole and put the strap behind me..It works as well... I never wear a seatbelt! I have had many friends that would have been hurt more if they had the seatbelt on... 1 buddy got t-boned and would have been stuck if the seatbelt was on... So no seatbelt for me!! I'm grown and can make this choice!!

Really! Why should we care if this idiot wants to die being a human projectile with a face full of broken windshield? Lord knows it won't affect insurance premiums and it will ceartainly do wonders for the morale of the unfortunate emergency responders that have to scrape another fool off the pavement. Let him drive w/o a belt because there is absolutely no evidence that the inconvenience of wearing it could save his life.

In DE, the law requires motorcycle helmets to be on the bike, not neccesarily on your head...pretty stupid. Next you guys will want to disable airbags because they might give you whiplash or they are too loud when you hit something.

And no, statisically speaking, you are safer in the car. Your friends were lucky. Why do you think racecars have roll cages, not ejection seats? Cars are meant to absorb impact and deflect energy while protecting you with seatbelts, airbags, and frame. Another reason our doors lock when you accelerate is because if a car flips, you want to be in it, not hanging outside.

I'm not trying to tell anyone that they have to wear a seatbelt or a helmet but just presenting my opinion. Take it or leave it. Patrick is right though, you are doing this to yourself, it's a free country. At least you're keeping cops and emergency service people employed.

Oh and here's an idea to actually answer your post. Just cut the seatbelt off at the buckle and leave it clipped in, should work.
