When I suggested you jump in a Malibu, it was not to purchase one (although it is a very nice ride), it was rather to see how the paddles feel versus the tiny buttons featured in the Camaro. Why have +/- levers that do nothing? Bottom line: need to be more horizontal than vertical; exactly how Malibu has it done. And for the kind gent with the MacGyver fix, that was one serious LOL moment due largely to the fact that you actually sound serious. Continue on your "everything is perfect" ways; lemmings the lot of you I say.

Woud be careful with that. I can see it now. GM voids a guys warranty on his transmission for the "paddle mod"

Speedster, I agree completely which is why I singled out the Camaro by itself. If you are driving a supercar, it would make sense to have an auto with paddle shifting. Manual shifting would only penalize your reaction time, speed and safety as well. Great points. For the Camaro speedster/dragster, having top of the line paddle shifting on an A6 would definitely be a serious bonus, but this car is marketed to everybody in the $22K-$45K price range, depending on options. GM just made it simple to add just enough engine and transmission selection to "get the job done" and everything else just falls in to place. To create another category for "Enthusiast Automatic L99 Paddle Shifting Performance" in addition to their standard automatic and manual options would just be another headache for GM.

It dosen't effect how they operate, just how you access the feature.. it does nothing to change the performance of the transmission, so to me it is no different than changing the shifter knob on the manual transmission for better grip.

It's not a design flaw any more than a matter of taste. If you got a yellow camaro and said it was a design flaw because the car was too bright looking, you'd be in the same boat. |

shifting feature built in to the main shifter
Would like to have a shifting feature built in to the main shifter, would give more of that manual feel, sometimes paddles are hard to find when you're cornering, not a design flaw just a feature request

I think once you get used to the location of the buttons it will become second nature to you and you won't even think about it, you will just do it...

Its just the same as +/- shifters on a console. Just a switch in a different spot. Its not really even paddle shifters. F1 level ferraris, paddle shift, Open class rally cars, paddle shift. These are just buttons. It is a cool idea and I drive Lexus/Infinitis with it all the time. Nothing wrong with them. But its not really a paddle shift its an upshift/downshift circuit There is a difference.

I like them better than the ones on my 2 gen 4's. Oh wait a minute, they didn't have them and the transmissions were 4 speeds? I still love the fact that the best that can be done to bad mouth my gen 5 is to nitpick. Cup holders, visors, shift buttons and the shark fin. Not blown engines, grenaded transmissions and rear ends.
