Chain or belt?? If it is a belt then I guarentee that WHEN it breaks that WILL be the life of the truck, because you will need a complete rebuild/replacement, then you will think $1600 was cheap insurance...

My 99 Tacoma had the timing chain and water pump changed at 70000 miles. Because water pump was leaking and the timing chain is easy access when pump is removed. Cost $800 at the time. Now have 181000 miles on it and runs great. Asked my friend who has been a Toyota mechanic for over 20 years if I should replace it agian. He said no. He has never seen one that has broke.

Alright I've heard chain and then I heard belt.

Does the Camaro V6 have a belt or chain?

If Belt does the V6 have a non-interference engine?

it has a chain...

I'm 99.9% sure it's NOT a non-interference motor...

I can't belive this thread is still going strong....

As said Before the V6 HAS a CHAIN !!!
And you should be dam glad it does!

To compare a chain with a belt is like comparing the performance of a Corvette with a Chev. Aveo..............

Hmmmm...my Road Glide is belt drive, will probably never need replaced. Does have a chain driven primary, that will need to be adjusted.

All import cycles I've owned had chain final drives, always adjusting, replacing them.

Same can be said for just about every chain timed car I've owned. In the few belt driven ones, I've never had an issue. Yes, gear drive is more expensive, and they make a bit of noise, but they last the longest. A double roller is a good chain, but will eventually stretch if seeing enough hard use. Belt is the same way. Maybe there is a bit of difference between timing and final drives, but the principle is the same.

I guess to get to the point of my rambling is this, a chain drive is not the final answer in timing. They can weigh more, cause more parasitic drag and they can stretch. Belts can stretch, skip or just flat out break. They weigh less, thus there is less rotational mass/energy. They are also cheaper. (usually) Again, if one is after the most reliability, go gear, although that isn't fool proof. I just won't scream that one has more virtues then the other.

And my post probably really doesn't mean squat, lmao

BIG DIFFERENCE.... your final drive belt breaks on your harley, you get left stranded... put a new belt on and your good...

break a timing belt on an interference motor and you are looking a a pretty big repair bill... if you're lucky you've only bent a few valves... OUCH!

Why don't you learn to read before you type.

I wasn't saying a belt is a chain.

There were other posters saying there was a belt on the Camaro.

I've replaced timing belts on other cars and they are a pain.

perhaps you need to take some of your own advice?

I told you it was a chain in post #2...

No where did ANYONE say the 2010 V6 Camaro had a belt.. The rest of the thread seems to be a discussion of belts vs chains... I don't see where anyone says our cars have a belt...

Skyman's posts read like he was saying it was a belt.

Does anyone else want to string this topic out anymore?

I think YOU should read your own THREAD... Scrming answered your question within mins.

WHO said YOU said a belt is a chain, NOT ME.........

NOBODY on the thread said the V6 Camaro had a Belt...............

In your post #17 you asked your same question AGAIN... SO I answered it like Scrming did twice before !
BELOW IS YOUR QUOTE:
Alright I've heard chain and then I heard belt.
Does the Camaro V6 have a belt or chain?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Skyman was saying..........Well I am not going to repeat it ...YOU READ his posts IF you can, then you will see what he said.

PS.. Maybe you had too much to today, At least that would be a reason for you today...........
