So what about the track pack? It is an option ford offers and camaro doesn't. Does that mean the mustang test should be dumbed down to match the ss? With your reasoning we shouldn't test the current 2010 GT against the SS because it isn't "fair" that chevy offers a 426hp engine and the mustang doesnt.

Your reason is illogical and you are just butt hurt about the new competition with the 2011 mustang. Balls up and except the fact like a man that they will both be great competitors in 2011.

Sorry I don't get upset over vehicles. I have no problem saying which car is better than which, like I've said in many threads that if the 2011 GT stays true to the said numbers, it will outperfom the unchanged Camaro. I've also said in this thread that I expect this Performance Package equipped V6 to be close to the current GT times.

The only thing that is wrong with your argument, and I feel as If I am repeating myself over and over, is that the horsepower difference is standard on the SS, with no power added or taken away from a performance package. Of course I could say this about the horsepower difference, IRS/Live-Axle, Brembos, etc. "It's what Chevrolet offers that Ford doesn't." But this would be true considering you don't add these advantages from a performance package. Again, by this logic, you could make a drag package for a TT package for the V6 and add it onto the current V6 camaro and still make this a fair comparison?

No your not getting it.

If its a factory option, and its within the same price range (which the TTV6 wouldn't be) then its fair. If GM choose to add an optional drag package that didn't go out of a comparable price bracket then it would be fair to compare the two regardless of its effect on performance.

Stop thinking about it as if your an enthusiast and think about it like your a consumer. Do you think that an average buyer is going to neglect to compare the track pack GT to the top of the line SS of the same price, just because GM doesn't offer a package that compares?

Of course if I was going to buy a 2010 GT I would get the track pack, but since I can buy it that makes it fair? I would assume thinking like an enthusiast would be better in comparing two car's performance than an average consumer. What I'm mostly trying to say is, if the V6 Mustang can have a performance package that borrows parts from the GT and GT500, wouldn't it be fair for the V6 Camaro to borrow parts in a performance package from a SS and Z/28?

I don't know. My gut says, given all the avenues they have for tweaking with the GDI engines, they could squeeze a bit more efficiency out of them. Recip engines are not my area of expertise though so I could be 100% wrong...

You guys are missing the point on the track pack thing- At the end of the day the SS STILL won the races against the Track Pack GT. The writers may have editorialized about feel, etc. of the Mustang, but there is no way to gloss over the win in any kind of race- road or drag. It's like Al Gore still crying on TV that he won the popular vote 6 years ago. He still lost. So who cares if the Mustang had a track pack?

Now you can argue about 2011, but 2011s aren't here yet so I'll care when they are. Then if the Camaro gets waxed I'll whine here until Chevy kicks it up a notch.

My 2004 STi was at 400 Crank HP and weighed half of a cast Iron 170hp V6. So unless you are literlly putting horses under the hood HP does not truly have and effect on weight. Id like to see the weight of a 305tpi vs the LS3, the LS3 has 200hp more and I bet it weighs in atleast 100 lbs less.

Yeah I believe we all know it won against a track pack equipped GT regardless, but it still wasn't really a level playing field. Notice I said "individual" handling tests. Just because you can pull good skipad numbers doesn't mean you can bring all the factors together to pull out a win in a road course match-up.

Well the V6 will be called "The performance" package. I have no ideal what the GT will have...it may still be called the "Track Pack" The Gt500 will get a "SVT package."

Basically all of the parts are items from Ford Racing catalog. Its being put together in a neat little package and installed at factory. The fact that the V6 is getting this option is surprising, and means that ford is stepping up to having a v6 Performer as well as save some pennies for the owner.

the choice is now clearly up to the consumer, the same way GM did for the camaro.
