how many road-race their Camaros?

When I finally get my Camaro I plan to do some serious trackdays around here (mainly Laguna Seca, Infineon, and Thunderhill.) I was wondering how people are liking the SS Camaro (LS3) on a road-race course. Also, I was interested to know if there were any essential mods needed before the track? i.e. oil coolers, etc. Thanks for the input!

I have been running my car at road atlanta. Let me say this these cars work great for road courses. Mods needed are more HP (I turboed mine), Braided brake lines, Higher temp fluid (wildwood 570) and a good hero camera. These cars can use coil overs and bigger sways as well in which I haven't gotten to yet. Also run the car with traction control on it works amazingly.

Thanks for the responses. I figured that stainless steel lines and high temp fluid would be a must (I have them on my track bikes) but I think the turbo is a little out of my price range for awhile. BTW, just for knowledge's sake, what brand and model turbo kit did u go for, where did u get it, how much, and what kind of gains r u seeing? Did u do the brakeline install yourself and, if so, how was the process?

Is there any other form of racing??? : ) Had mine up at Thunderhill in October. Overall, she did much better than I anticipated. Breaks had me worried after the first session, but they "broke in" and held better than I anticipated. The car turns in well, but can be a bit "slushy" neutral throttle. Then the understeer kicks in...Throttle steering helps a lot, but I have a set of Pfadt sways to put on...

Nice!!!

Tomato, I've been able to ride Thunderhill maybe 9-10 times on my Kawasaki Ninja 636. It's tons of fun. The off camber turns will b a handful in a car. How fast were u going thru turn 1? What trackday provider do u go with? What kind of laptimes were u turning?

Also Beauwolf, what type of bushing are you talking about? What brand?

Lawdogg149, what type of steel brake lines did you get. I've seen them from $170-$200, I had Earl's on my 1993 Z28 they were even less expensive but were great.

I'll be adding Pedders coilovers on my car and I have an extra set if anyone is looking. I need to order all the bushings for mine before I do the install.

I am having a hard time heel/toeing with this car. Racing pedals would help a LOT!

Lingerfelter makes new pedal pads that suppose to work great for these cars. As far as brake lines I bought the MTI racing ones. Perfect fit with mounting tabs and all installed already. great product. Im now setup to run sebring in which will be Jan 3. Pfadt sways added for a less understeer. Also BMR chassis brace and upper and lower rear arms. Car is definetly ready for some fast times in Florida.

Did the local SCCA stuff this weekend. Had a blast.

The coarse was to small for the Camaro to really open its legs, had trouble getting the power to the ground, was spinning the rear end out of every turn. Barely hit second gear on straight sections. Need sway bars for sure.

All the time!

I have been to quite a few track days already (first one after only 200 miles on the clock). I wanted to take the car to the track stock, then do the mods to really see the difference.

Swaybars should be the first mod anybody does, besides the obvious pad, fluid and line upgrade. The car has plenty of stopping power, but the brakes do overheat after 6-7 hot laps.

This is one of the reasons why I also went naturally aspirated with mine, heads, cam, exhaust gave me just a hair under 500rwhp (497 to be exact) and that power is plentiful!

Other mods are brake upgrade, pfadt swaybars and springs and a much better alignment. Both my wife and I shaved 6 seconds off our laptimes at Homestead with these mods, and the car handles like a dream.

Here is a pic, and a video from the last weekend we went out racing
