Barton Shifter? Here's an idea!

So......I really like the orange stitching on the factory shifter but wanted a different look. I knew that I wanted a short shifter and after much searching, there was only One choice for me...BARTON! The engraved part on the top of the knob is a great place to personalize. I tried to paint in the center but unless you have the steadiness of a corpse, there is no way to make it look good. All of the sudden i remembered what my brother used to do when he played dungeons and dragons as a child. He would take a crayon and rub it into the indents on the dice and polish off the top to remove the extra! So......I dont have kids but know lots of suckers that do. I went to visit them and finally found a color that matched the shifter stitching. It is called "red orange". So I rubbed the crayon into the etching and polished off the extra with a napkin. Looks great! it should be pretty fool proof and if it ever needs redone, i will use the 98% of the rest of the 2 cent crayon that is left! I also decided to paint the shifter handle to keep the "black" look.

here is a pic.

strange...

you could have done that with paint also... just rub the paint in and then wipe the top and the paint will stay in the inlay.

Billyjk7- Great idea on the Crayon! LOL. I don't know If it would work but you could try spraying a clear coat over it. I dont know if it would adhere to the crayon but you can spray it on the black anodize with no prep just make sure its clean.

When I got my Barton knob I had that same idea using the crayon. What I decided to do was mask it off rub some touch up IOM in and wipe off. After it sets up I'm going to 'clay' the knob to get rid of the remainder of what doesn't wipe off. Now that you say the paint will wipe off too, maybe the crayon is the way to go.
