Is there even a V8 car that exists that you can get for under $26,000?

Even the base V8 2007 Mustang is $25,695. Two more years and that will be over $26,000.

I"m fully expecting what I want to be around $32,000 or so. But I like my cars full of amenities.

They will release price prior to the car being released, I'm sure. Dealers will probably get all the option/pricing info at the same time we do. This, I would imagine, would be about 6 months or so before they hit the dealers. This is my GUESS, but I think it makes sense. There will be thousands of people placing special orders right when the info is released. GM will be building these cars knowing they are going to be selling. All this info must be released somewhat early in order for the buyer to be aware and get the factory to start on their car.

it may look stupid, but i wish it will be damn expensive so that it won't be a popular success. I would hate (especially her ein france) to see bunch of people with my car ...

I understand what you're saying Punk Rider, but I want to see as many Camaros (meaning fewer Mustangs) on the road as possible.....I want the Camaro to become such a huge success that it never goes away again.

As for not seeing a bunch of people with "your car"...that's what wheels, paint, and aftermarket body kits are for.

Absolutely, It was a sad, sad, day for me when the Camaro died...or as we know now, when it went on vacation
I DON'T want that to happen again.

I remember reading in magazines all the rumors of the Camaro returning in 2005. WTF happened to that? Oh well better late than never. Once again if dealers price gouge they are getting an IED in the mail. Then nobody will have a Camaro until they not price gouge. I saw two GT500s on virginiaautosearch.com for $63K and $66K. MSRP starts at $42K. What kind of crap is that? Whoever is trying to make that kind of profit needs to kill themselves. These are supposed to be cars for the American people, not the super rich car collectors that let the damn thing sit in a climate controlled warehouse. Buy it and drive it the way it was built to be driven! GRRRRR it makes me so mad when I see dealers trying to make such a huge profit off of something that people dream about. At MSRP I could afford a GT500. It would be a stretch, but I could pull it off. With a roughly 33% markup that drives it way out of the price range of the intended market. Rediculous.

I see, so if the release of the Camaro will be in a year then we should expect some type of news on the pricing within 6 months. Assuming of course.

I am sorry but if all you are seeing is 60+k pricing on the GT500 then you are not doing you research right. I have seen some go for under 40k. Some barely used going for 37,017.

Well, again...if we are lucky and everything goes off without a hitch for GM, we could very well see the coupe release in late 08. This would most likely mean pricing and option info released in what I would think would be late July of 08. This would be best case scenario. I guarantee you that if it is going to be released early, there will be rumors flying about...some from the car mags, insiders at GM, and I'm sure someone up there at GM will give a hint. They want it out ASAP, but won't do it unless they have all their ducks in a row. My guess...late July of 08. That way, GM gets the orders in and cars are delivered in the last two months of 08 as an 09 model.

I almost put this in the LS7 thread, because prices are being discussed there, but I figured I wouldn't go

I know the Camaro and the Mustang are supposed to be direct competition, and they are, but in the last years of the 4th Gen they never really did line up directly.

The Mustang V6 and Camaro V6 lined up pretty well in terms of cost, and the Mustang Cobra and Camaro SS lined up fairly well in terms of cost. However the Z28 and Mustang GT never really did. Not to mention there were discrepancies in the Ford Mustang line up like when the Cobra wasn't produced in 2000 and when Ford added a 4th factory version of the Mustang like the 2001 Bullitt and the 2003-2004 Mach 1.

Anyway my point is that back in the early 2000s, a Mustang GT could be had at or just under the $20k mark, while the Z28s were still a little bit more expensive. Meaning the two base V8s didn't square off directly against each other, and Chevy still moved large volumes of Camaros then.

The Camaro and the Mustang might find themselves competeing in the same general price range when you compare extremes i.e. V6 to V6 and SS to Cobra/Shelby GT500, but not on the models in between.

From what I know about the situation so far, there is a very real possibility that we could have four different Camaros competing against four different Mustangs.

We have heard that there might be two V6 versions of the Camaro, a standard and high performance V6 version. The Z28 base V8 and the SS performance V8.

The Mustang might have the base V6, the base V8 Mustang GT, a performance N/A V8 Mustang Bullitt or Mach, and of course the top of the line Cobra/GT500 supercharged V8.

Which means in terms of price and performance a Mustang GT might be competing with the high performance V6 camaro. While the Bullitt or Mach 1 Mustang and the Z28 are the real competitiors.

There is rumored to be a 2008.5 model year Bullitt in the works with a 400hp DOHC 4.6L engine and some hefty suspension upgrades to make it a road racing type Mustang to fit the massive gap between the 300hp GT and the 500hp GT500.

I am completely speculating of course.

Not that this particular magazine is any kind of trustworthy fount of information, but...

I work in the mailroom for a State Prison and get to check out the various magazines going thru. When I see anything 5th Gen Camaro related, regardless of what the magazine is, I check it out.

The most recent issue of Rides (essentially a magazine full of rim advertisements lol) they had a couple pages on Bumblebee and Barricade.

It mentioned a rumor that the production version of the Camaro may be revealed at the premier of Transformers.

As I said, take this with a cup full of salt. I just thought I'd mention it.

Well, that IS interesting. And if it's true - mind you all - IF - that means GM is spectacularly on schedule. I mean, there could be some truth to that. Think. There have been multiple reports from GM higher-ups that the "production version looks(present tense=it has been built) almost exactly like the concept"
So, this could be a HUGE slap in the face to Ford and Chrysler, if the Camaro gets released early '08. The unveiling could be a response to our resounding - "Get on with it!"

OF COURSE, I am taking this with more salt than you EllwynX, Just speculating

I took a priced Z28 SS from 2002, valued around 26500ish. 22700 MSRP for the Z28 and a 3600ish SS package (courtesy of Automotive.com) and I added 3% inflation per year(which is well over what the inflation rates have been) until 2009 - something which GM has been good at negating anyways - and the Car came to about 32,000 dollars.

Remember this car was 325 hp back then. In 2009 I can see 400hp a natural progression in power, at least. So I don't know why anybody keeps insisting on $40,000+ Camaro SS?!? I guess it just bugs me. Aw well, I posted and I'm finished arguing this point, it drives me up a wall

That's some good fact-based speculation Dragon....and, if it's even close to accurate...then GM is not going to have any problem hitting and surpassing their projected sales numbers.
