LS3: fuse pull or battery disconnect??

I've read the sticky, but still wondering why some guys with LS3's are doing the fuse pull. Just for good measure?? I was hoping to just do the battery disconnect next week when I bolt up my JBA catback.

*EDIT* I would like to rephrase my question to: What guys with a LS3 did ONLY the battery disconnect and did it work??

g-townmach,

While you have you battery disconnected......what the heck, go ahead and pull the fuses while you are at it. It can't hurt anything. I do not have the LS3's but I know for a fact it woke both my L99/2SS/RS and my sister-in-laws-L99/2SS/RS Camaros up.

I was shocked at how taking two fuses out could make that big of an impact. Since it doesn't cost anything to do it........go for it as you said "just for good measure".

NOTE: Just remember to make sure you have at least 91 or higher octane gas in your tank, otherwise its null and void, battery disconnect, &/or fuses pull, or perhaps like your inquiry staes: both battery/fuse pull to get the results you would like to have.

Good luck and let us know how your JBA install goes!!!!!!!!

I wonder if they'll issue a TSB for this sort of thing. Where you can take it to the dealer for an updated ECM flash.

I pulled the fuses on my LS3 and really did not notice anything different. Didn't hurt anything but no rfeal difference. However over this past weekend I installed the Diablosport performance tune from my trinity and there is a definite difference. Tons more horsepower and torque.

Pulling fuses is a complete waste of time. Disconnecting the negative side of the battery for a minute, will reset the adaptive learn parameters of your ECM, but so will filling up the gas tank. All three will wipe the long term fuel trims and reset them, but they go right back to their averages within a few miles. If an intake is made correctly, the long term fuel trims will not change at all from the factory trims.

Don't waste your time. It takes around 5 minutes of driving for the adaptive relearn to set the long term fuel trims. You can purchase MSD's Dashhawk and reset the LTFs on the fly if you like resetting them.

Bingo. Waste of time for sure.

I did the fuse pull alone, the battery pull alone, and then the fuse pull and battery pull together. The car felt exactly the same each time. The only difference was that pulling the battery cable was the only way I was able to reset the check engine light after installing my long tubes.

these are only really necessary if you ended up with a tank of less-than-91 octane gas

It will be back, just like Arnold. The codes are related to cat insufficiency due to the location of the cats and their cooler running. The secondary O2 sensors do not see the values that the ECM wants them to see, setting off the codes.

If they continue, the only course is to reprogram the ECM with those codes turned to Type X, or no test. There can be other codes related to headers as well.

Get a reader/scanner and post the codes here. I can help you.

You are exactly correct. The check engine light came on a couple hundred miles after the install, and I reset the ecm knowing that the light would be back on soon. Sure enough, it came back on after a couple hundred miles. I had OnStar do a diagnostic test just to be sure it was cat insufficiency, and it was. I have considered tuning the car, but I am not sure I am ready to risk losing the warranty just yet.
