One big difference I see, none of the Yenko, Baldwin-Motion, etc. were Z/28s, most everything you are talking about was 427cid COPO cars that were then "personalized" by Yenko, etc. Sure there were 20k plus Z/28s built in '69, but I've seen numbers matching '69 Z/28s go for $140,000-$160,000 plus at Barrett/Jackson (though many sell for less), so they seem to still fetch a pretty good price. Some people like the "personalized" COPOs, some like Z/28s, I think it's awesome that we have so many choices from back then.

Yenko Sports Cars Inc. did indeed have a special Z28 available. It was called the Yenko Stormer. It was a complete SCCA road race ready package.

Don Yenko is the man who was able to convince Vince Piggens to have the factory install the L72 427ci engine into was was basically a Z28 Camaro body and chassis along with a few additional upgrades. Other dealers learned of the COPO 9561 and 9737 Packages and soon ordered there own versions.

Supply and demand has a material impact on the value and collectibility of these special Camaros.

The super car tnners of the day such as Nickey Chicago and Motion Performance etc.. did on occassion use Z28 Camaros as a basis for their conversions.

That is a great idea, except I decided my Z28 or whatever has to be a different Color-VICTORY RED with Black Stripes or ORANGE with Black Stripes. Also SLP is 50 state certified. Lingenfelter according to their website in not Certified in Calif. Not sure about Hennessey Ca. certification & not aware of their Prices (there prices are not listed on their website-they say to call for prices)

Also, I forgot to mention the Z28 or whatever has to have a Hoodscoop like the SLP or the MOTOR TREND Z28. Lingenfelter & Hennessey seem to use the existing hood. Of Course, I probably prefer the Nickey Chicago Super Camaro Wheels vs the SLP wheels, but considering all the current Special Edition Camaro's, the SLP seems to be the least expensive.

Interesting that they made a Z/28 based version. That does not alter the fact that once the 302cid is removed and replaced with a different engine you no longer have a Z/28, in essence you have a "Z/28 tribute car".

I personally would wait for the real thing...Z28. Or buy an SS and build it to suite, I never understood why people overpay for packages like the SLP car.

Most of the companies will do whatever you want to your car. I have spoke with SLP, Hennessey and a few others. I am sure somthing can be worked out as far as rims, hoods and the like.

Actually, since all these cars are Seriel Numbered they turn into collectors items. Ever watched Berrent-Jackson Car auction? They sale cars like these all the time. Besides you now Yenko started out as and still is a car dealer?

Now I am not saying Yenko didn't have great cars, but the dealers exploited the rules of the COPO program to custom-build the ultimate muscle cars of the time. Today the COPO program isn't around so it is up to people like Hennessey, SLP, Nickey Chicago, ECT to turn out a new generation of muscle cars. So it boils down to who has been around longer, which isn't as important as car performance, what the customer wants and how much he is willing to pay for it.

More and more I'm thinking (I hope I am wrong) the Z/28 (which would be a low volume saling car) GM can not afford it and the push away from oil to other sources of fuel...means it is a long way off, if happens at all.
