Chevron and Shell 93 Octane for my SS.

During the hot Summer months, I will sometimes treat the SS (and myself) to a 50/50 tank of 93 premium AND 109 VP unleaded racing fuel.

Shell FTW!

I have only used Shell 93 octane since I bought my car. Glad I reviewed the Top Tier list before buying!

Right now I mostly buy costco gas for my non-maro and it seems fine. It's cheap and no issues but this is a different kind of car so I was wondering what others have experienced.

Any pros or cons?

thanks!

I have always preferred Texaco.

The only stations I see on a daily basis are Mobil (over priced by about 16 cents a gallon on avg) 7-11 and Racetrac. I usually use 7-11 and sometimes Racetrac. I have no idea if either is good gas quality though.

Texas Motorsport Ranch is only about a 15 minute drive from my house. They have 3 different grades of VP at the pump.

In the hot Summer temps, yes, I can actually feel a difference in acceleration and throttle response when compared to the 93 octane alone. In the cooler temperatures, I can't tell nearly as much so I just run 93 when it's cool outside.

EDIT: Forgot to answer the "how much of one?" part -- Nothing like a supercharger, but more like the difference between how your engine feels between a hot day and a cool oxygen-rich day. Enough to put a little extra grin on your face. The best part is that you get the feel of a "cool weather" engine with "hot weather" sticky tires.

I read that too, and none of the gas stations really close to me are Top Tier. But Shell isn't far from where I do most of my shopping, so it will be Shell from now on.
The other option is to get that additive GM recommends, from your dealer. I think it said to add it once a year to keep the injectors clean?

I have been using BP Amoco in my Camaros for years now. No problems and no complaints. When none available I go with Shell as my next choice.

Additives do make a difference. When you purchase gas from a discount retailer i.e. Big Box stores you are getting the cheapest gas they can purchase from one of several distributors in your town. Per EPA mandate all gas for on road use must have an additive package in it. The Big Box's are getting a generic additive that meets the lowest level of the specs and you get about as much as you can spit in a tank. Major brand gasoline gets a higher dose of a proprietary additive with up to three times the amount in the Premium grade. If you use a brand name gas injector cleaner is not needed. If you do decide to use one say twice a year Techron is one of the best after market cleaners. Personally I use Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner. A mechanic who works on the old ZR1's exclusively swears by it and instead of the small bottle I use half of the 32oz. bottle in a tank per his recommendation. Had an engine torn apart with over 150,000 miles and the mechanics were amazed at how clean and deposit free it was. Of course quality oil and frequent oil changes contributed greatly to the cleanliness.

I have been using Valero Gas AKA Diamond Shamrock, and the fuel level sensors have gone out several times. Finally switched to Fina, but its not on the list. I guess I will switch over to Shell since we don't have any Chevrons. We have a lot of Valeros and Citgos in our area. My warranty repaired my Silverado's Sensor, but my 2000 Camaro stayed out of whack since it ran out of warranty and it's a pain to drop the tank. There were also claims that Valero gas would damage fuel pumps, but that never happened to me. They recently posted on their pumps that they can contain up to 10% ethanol which might be a reason they are damaging pumps and sensors. Since I've switched to Fina the fuel level in my 2000 Camaro has started to work a little at a time.

That would be one cool perk!
I wish!! We pretty much pay what everyone else does. We can get an employee gas card which gives us $0.10/gallon, but often times you can sign up for a card and get a better discount depending on the promotion when you sign up. When I get my gas bill each month I think I'm saving like $3.00 with my discount. 10% would be nice.

I use Shell most of the time. However here out here in West Texas we only have 91 octane for ANY station which is rather annoying because when I go home to South Texas we have 93.

This subject has been beat to death on here. Most people don't realize that just because a gas station has a brand name sign, doesn't mean that's where the gas came from. It's hauled from where ever the broker can get a deal on it, then the additives make it a brand name spec gas.

Have fun down there, wish we had your weather up hear.
