Your right. The new Mustang styling does nothing for me.
It's still dated and I don't think it will sell well. Look at this new fresh Camaro-It screams EXCITEMENT !

The Mustang must be held in high esteem around here because someone is always comparing these two cars and trying to point that somehow the Camaro is better (and then getting the thread locked ). If the Camaro is clearly the superior vehicle, the Mustang shouldn't even be mentioned or in the discussion.
I couldn't disagree more. The Mustang has always been the Camaro's arch enemy, or if you prefer, closest competitor. There will always be comparisons by the various groups. I do believe the Camaro is superior in that it's chassis is newer and it also has an IRS that most independant people will admit is superior to a solid rear axle. In 2011 Mustang gets new engines. Will that help sales? YES! Of course it will. Will it level the playing field? That all depends. I have a 2SS/RS and while I drive it quickly, I don't drive it like a race car. I immediately fell in love with the body of it when I first saw it as a concept in 2006. While performance is hugely important, and bring with them bragging rights, I personally believe style sells these cars more than performance. The auto rags have been rooting for Mustang all year, all one has to do is read an article to know that so next year I don't see much change on that front. The sales race? Who knows who will sell more. I kinda hope the Mustang does. That will do two things: It will keep our cars more exclusive, and it will make Chevy try harder to best it. Both win-win's in my book.

Exactly. Most consumers don't care because a lot of the people whom brought the 2005-2009 model aren't in the market since the new model is just a refresh of that model. More hp doesn't mean a thing when the body is saying the same, this is what has killed GM, FORD and CHYSLER in the past. Keeping the same body but tweeking the guts of the car. Sorry but most buyers want to see an improved apperance, not the same one for 7 years.

this is from autoblog they said the mustang slod more.
According to sales data released by both Ford and General Motors, the Mustang sold 66,623 units in 2009, with GM coming in close behind at 61,618 Camaros sold for the year.

Early on there was speculation that the Camaro could overtake the Mustang if its sales streak continued, but despite pent up demand for the Chevy's retromobile, Ford sold 6,327 Mustangs last month – over 60 percent more than it did in November. Not a huge surprise, but a good showing nonetheless, and with all of the updates to the 2011 Mustang, we suspect that next year's race won't be nearly as entertaining.

Truth is, 92.7% of all statistics can be manipulated to say what you want them to.

This looks like a prime example of Ford manipulating statistics in desperation.

That drag race head start metaphor is perfect for this situation.

every month there are about 1000 more camaros produced than actual sales. the math doesn't work out unless these are all sitting on lots.

That was autoblog twisting numbers, not Ford. But yes, its a sad pitiful fan boy attempt to one up the Camaro sales. Even though, with a 3 month head start, the Mustang only outsold the Camaro by 4,000 cars....

lots of things to consider

full disclosure, bought a 2010 Mustang V6 because i wanted a daily driver immediately (95 maxima transmission died, too expensive to bother repairing). Would have considered a Camaro seriously had there been no waiting list, and cars on the lots, although in general i avoid first year model cars* -- don't like being the guinea pig.

(*lesson learned, see below)

Camaro sales were solid, its a great advertising campaign and a very distinctive model in the market place. the fact that people are selling corvettes to 'downgrade' to camaros speaks volumes about GM's new design philosophy. better interiors, better attention to detail.

I think the 'ford wins muscle car sales' is splitting hairs. Lots of factors to consider...mustangs were sold for the entire year, although the first quarter was end generation models. Peak month of mustang sales was higher than the peak month for camaro. The latest gen mustang was a 'refresh' though, and not as sexy as the net-new, back from retirement camaro. Camaro styling and tremendous engine performance was a huge advantage in the marketplace. GM (either deliberately or due to lack of capacity) limited product availablilty -- perhaps they could have killed sales had they ramped up production 50-100%? FWIW i think GM maintaining a tight supply is a good idea, and will keep the model 'hot' in the minds of consumers for several years.

2011 will be an interesting year. Much better engine under the mustang hood -- no longer ceding performance advantage to Camaro. Camaro will be a year 2 car, pre-order demand addressed...will the brand be able to grow? Was it a one year wonder? Good news is that the production hiccups will have mostly been address, the quality of the year 2 car hitting lots should be better. There's also a camaro vert coming.

As for companies, i love fords but am very disappointed my 2010 ends up being an orphaned year 1 car, with the real upgrades coming in 2011. its a daily driver so i can live with my ancient colonge engine (at least its reliable) but am slightly bitter they didn't do the refresh 'right' in one full year.

PS Wonder where the Genesis coupe sales fit in all of this?

Do rentals / fleet vehicles count in sales?

Must agree with Camaro10: "That will do two things: It will keep our cars more exclusive, and it will make Chevy try harder to best it. Both win-win's in my book."

That's one of the reasons I went with a Camaro - got tired of seeing every guy and his dog driving a Mustang!

Looks like they got enough complaints about the sales figures being inaccurate. They updated the article:
Quote:
UPDATE: As many of you pointed out in the comments and after

having a conversation with Chevy's Adam Denison, we didn't analyze the data properly. In our haste to get this story posted, we failed to note that the Camaro didn't go on sale until June of 2009 and that Chevy sold more Camaros each month thereafter, including December.
That's Right!!!

Yeah all you here are forgetting that the Camaros didn't go on sale until May 9th to the general public. Yes some of us had ours already by then and thats because we were early order activity. But GM didn't send any cars to dealerships until May 9th so really the mustang sold and was on lots for the public all year as the Camaro was only on introduced in May.

I'm glad someone else noticed this, there have been 80,000+ Camaro's built but only 61,000 sales??!?!

So there are 20,000 Camaro's just hanging out somewhere?
