The general public might not care about hp, but the pony car-buying segment of the public does. I expect Mustang sales to pick up once they take over as the top hp option. Will they overtake the Camaro in the long run? That's up to GM and all their secretive 2011 plans.

I received my Camaro in December, so I'm part of those numbers.

I too didn't want to buy a Mustang because they are everywhere. I wanted something cool and different.

And I looked at the challenger and didn't care for it. It's not bad, but it's not for me.

I get a natural rush each time I drive my Camaro. It's the best car I've ever purchased.

They sold about 20,000 cars for the year. In the spirit of competition, here's to hoping the Camaro and Mustang both go up in sales next year and CLOBBER that little tin can.

412? ....

If I had to give a prediction...I would agree with you and say that I think the Mustang will sell more cars than the Camaro in time. I just have no idea when, and I don't think it'll be next year...but that statement has been the default trend for quite a long time. The difference between then and now? I think Chevy has enough attitude and stamina to keep the Camaro fresh and desirable so we don't repeat 2002.

It may not sell the most, but I think it will be to the Mustang what the Silverado is to the F-150.

Maybe not "bad"...but after driving both versions, I'm thoroughly convinced it's not "good", either.

And the fact it's a Hyundai makes me want to see our boys outsell it.

It is nice to see the American Muscle cars selling strong. In a time of more and more pressure around "green" vehicles it is obvious that there is still "no replacement for displacement" (ehem, as soon as the stang gets some more that is.. ehem) It would be nice to get a full picture of sales of the three American Muscle cars against the Foreign "equivalents". I like all three cars, but like the SS in my garage best

For the record, the platform the Camaro is based on (Zeta) is actually older than the platform the 2005-up Mustangs are built (D2C).

As for IRS vs. SRA, that subject has been beat to death on this forum. IRS is superior to SRA in some areas, SRA is superior to IRS in others.

Only by a year or two...if that. And they revised the platform specifically for the Camaro...so parts of it is brand new.

True. My point was that both are relatively new and are excellent platforms that offer more strength than any previous platform under each ponycar.

I can agree with that.

They both have their characteristic strengths and weaknesses...

Personally, my favorite part about it all is that they're nowhere near identical. Both companies are approaching the same problem (to build a modern sports 2+2 sports car) from very different directions. It makes it entertaining...imagine if they were both IRS, or both SRA...both used pushrod V8s or both used OHC/DOHC V8s...I'd get bored, quick.

I think they called that period "the '60's-'80's".

That's why I said imagine...If you can remember, then you weren't there, right?
