The pricing is out of line in Canada. The market is the market. It means we just have to "arbitrage" the deal.
The solution....Buy a 6 month old car with over 6k mileage and the warranty will be valid in Canada. Its a hassle but obviously worth the effort. That being said..GM cannot change MSRP every day the currency changes .....BUT....they could try harder. |

Are you going to heat your igloo this winter, or is it going to be to expensive?

Mustang 2010 buyer here. three reasons, #1 i've typically bought fords and have had a good experience...why change? #2 availabiltiy of the 2010s on the lot since march, lots of supply. if i was more patient, i would of course i could have waited and tried a camaro but needed a car since was replacing a DOA one. #3...this is what i don't get...Ford pricing was much more favorable than anything listed for a Camaro. I *presumed* this was due to limited supply (camaro being the 'hot' new model) but now almost a year later, with camaros on lots for weeks or months, the supply situation resolved, AND it being the middle of winter...dealers are still being ridiculous! I live in the west end suburbs of greater Toronto (missisauga) and all of the SS models are $46-48k canadian ... before freight and taxes. *LIST* price for mustang GT verts are around $44k... you could get a fully loaded GT for just under $40k CAD...and i'm willing to bet you could negotiate that down to $38-39. 2011 models might be pushing that pricing down a bit, but even in the summer you could cut that deal if you tried hard.
its screwy ... the camaro is made in oshawa, but comes at an $8k+ canadian pricing premium. The mustang is made in michigan, and deep discounts are available (and availability is high). I envy americans in their competitive choice and pricing in this case...you could pick what you want based on what you like @ a certain price point; my choice(s) were more oriented on available supply and total cost of ownership. Yes my V6 pony has measily horspower compared with the base camaro, but when i look at how much i saved it doesn't hurt as much. I'm already planning on 'trading up' in 2012/2013, hopefully the pricing will be more competitive at the time and I'll be able to pick my replacement much more competitively. But unless you're a die-hard bowtie camaro lover, its really really hard to justify a Camaro V8 as a Canadian. |

Obama economics....mmmm,mmmm,mmmm Barack Hussein Obama, we in the US will soon have the same thing when the Obamhealthcare decides that cars cause claims in the hospital and will put a tax on cars...(you know that cars drink too much and the cars have the accidents, just like the guns in my closet, every once and awhile, they jump out of their safe and just decide to shoot at someone) there is NO common sense with the government !!

![]() Canada has traditionally kept its currency low, deliberately, as we're primarily an exporting nation (e.g. raw materials, agricultural goods). In recent years, with the growth of domestic manufacturing + solid deficit management, and with the US' recent spending woes, the currency differences have declined to the point of almost parity. My biggest gripe is that while some auto manufacturers adjust to currency fluctuations fairly quickly (e.g. Ford, Hyundai), others have been pocketing the difference in exchange (e.g. Chrysler, GM, Toyota). A huge portion of Chrysler's manufacturing is in canada, and their recent bankruptcy is at least in part tied to the fact that the cheaper labor rates disappeared during the first currency alignement... killed their bottom line. |

On the other side of the coin, it is costing GM more money to produce every car they sell into the US everytime the C$ goes up. This means that Americans can eventually expect a price hike if the C$ goes above parity for the long term (which economists are expecting). |

gm can make monthly adjustments if they wanted to in the form of a rebate as they are changed every month, they could have at least left the owner loyalty in place, but they would rather pillage while they can no different than the dealers that were selling at over MSRP.

I don't care if I'm paying 45K for my Camaro. It's worth it to live in this Country.

No we can't. GM dealers are not allowed to sell cars for export. Plus GM Canada will not allow any new car to be warrantied until it has put on some miles.

Some people have unreasonible expectations on pricing. GM cannot reprice everything as the currency exchange changes. One day the USD may be worth $0.70 of a CDN dollar and others it would be even.
GM is already losing money on every US Camaro export because of the currency fluctuation. Additionally, you don't see competitors repricing their cars every day because of the economy. If GM were to wave $8k from the price, GM will be losing more money, selling the car at a loss and the Mustang will continue to charge forward with the same price. Don't expect this to change any time soon. But comparing Canadian prices to US prices is pretty worthless. Especially considering the average Canadian income is dramatically higher than the US. Costs of living are also much lower in Canada than the US. Go to Australia, everything there is much more expensive than Canada.
